Wii Remote on Scratch

Hi, i am looking for a mac piece of software that will allow me to use the wii remote in scratch. It has to be something that puts the variables in the sensing block. Maybe if I could run the Wii2Scratch software on mac that would work. I also know someone on the scratch team is working on the Wii remote with scratch thing. If I could have some help that would be great.

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

Seeing as Python is cross-platform, you'll probably be able to work something out. I'm a bit behind the times on all this (mostly due to lack of interest), however, you'd probably be able to find something to your needs on Scratch Connections: http://scratchconnections.wik.is/

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

I think you might be able to get something off wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii
that lets you use the wii remote with the whole computer but I'm not sure you can do it with a mac.

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

Wii remote on scratch... would you end up with tilt variables to figure out it's position? Also, what are you planning to make, it sounds pretty interesting.

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

Why would you want a jar file? You can just download the installer.

Probably cause EXEs won't work on Macs while jar's do if you have Java installed...

Well, PCs can't run .app files  smile
And they can't run .out files  smile
And remember who created the GUI as we know it?  smile
And remember who invented the mouse?  smile
And remember who invented the iPod, iPhone and iPod Touch?  smile
And remember who created the Cmd sign?  smile

I could go on. The answer to all of these questions is
a) Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc.
b) Some sort of Apple computer
c) true.

Guess how many viruses there are for macs?

If you said more than zero, you're wrong. That's why PCs need so much support.

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

My Dad says Macs are so much better than PCs but they're to expensive. (I bet he wants tons of Macs but lots of money for that.) So he got tons of PCs. In my prefference, I don't like the Mac toolbar. I'd say Linux is pretty good. It has good graphics, games, and other stuff and has the toolbar I like. (I'm on Linux right now but I'm usually on a PC. (I'm on a Linux CD using my PC) ).

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

With a programmers help you may be able to do it. Here is a link to make a LCD screen a touch screen with the Wiimote: http://www.johnnylee.net/projects/wii/

Technically, you don't have to figure out the variables if you just want to use it as some kinda point and click device... Big point here... could you hook up a sensor bar to a computer?

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

I recreated Johnny Chung Lee's Multi-Poin Interactive Whiteboard. It works fine for all applications but not for Scratch. When I want to use the IR Light Pen in Scratch by clicking and dragging a block I always have a right click event and the HELP is shown.

Does anyone tried the Whiteboard? Why do I have a right click event? How can I solve the problem?

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

Hi Thilo, Scratch 1.4 invokes context menus either by right clicking on an object or by (left) clicking-and-holding the button down on an object. This allows users with single-button pointing devices (and touchscreens) to also use Scratch. I have no idea how that whiteboard works, but it appears to me that you'd just have to be quicker to *move* the pen after you click it (before the menu pops up) ...

Re: Wii Remote on Scratch

Thanks Jens. That was a good hint. The whiteboard works fine for Scratch 1.3. I think it's sufficiant for testing some simple projects.

I tried to move the pen quicker after clicking on a block in Scratch 1.4 but the menu pops up immediately. I tested it with a normal mouse and the menu pops up in about one second. That's kind of curious because the IR pen emulates the mouse.

But I guess it's about the software of the IR pen. I used another software (Smoothboard 1.5) and it works fine for Scartch 1.4, too. Unfortunately it's shareware and advertising comes up all the time  smile . I think i have to "remix" Johnny Chung Lee's open source code.

Thanks again
Thilo
