Well the way I do it is... go to http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html and use the online photo editor there to split the animated gif into frames.From there you would save each costume and put each costume ( In Order!) on scratch and do this script:

<when green flag clicked>
<next costume>

Or whatever other script you want to make it look animated.

Hope that helps!  smile

It's actually very easy: Just import it as a new costume.  big_smile

SCRATCH is capable of importing animated .gif files; it will have each frame turned into a costume for a new sprite, in the order that the frames are animated in the original .gif image. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy  smile

Hmm, I made a bit of a mistake there, I'll have to go back and fix it, I meant "import it as a new costume".

Steps:
1. Create a sprite, it doesn't matter what image you use, you'll be deleting that costume image later anyway.
2. Under the 'costumes' tab, click on import. A browser window will open.
3. Find the animated .gif image you want. Click on it and hit 'OK'. All the frames in the .gif file will be transformed into individual costumes, in the same order as the original .gif file.
4. Delete the costume from step 1.

That's it, you're done!  big_smile

Sometimes you can just click and drag the image (either from your browser or from a saved file on your computer) over your open Scratch project and drop it on the sprite you want.
