Global Warming Yes it does.

Recently, on a project for earthday I have had someone tell me global warming does not exist. Obviously it does, but I can't stand to live to see someone who denies what we've done to our planet. Could you, all the scratchers, ban together and help me tell him? Do you agree? here's the proof.

And no, it doesn't matter whether your a republican or a democrat. Global warming exists and we need to stop it.

I say: It doesn't exist.
If you want a cleaner planet:
1. Don't litter.
2. Tell the government to make better gas that doesn't pollute.
3. Invent teleportation so we don't have to use cars.

It's not quite 100% clear cut. There are climatologists that predict climate change cooling europe which has had some harsh winters. Plus

""The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has been at the forefront of predicting doom in the arctic as ice melts due to global warming. In May, 2008 they went so far as to predict that the North Pole would be ice-free during the 2008 'melt season,' leading to a lively Slashdot discussion. Today, however, they say that they have been the victims of 'sensor drift' that led to an underestimation of Arctic ice extent by as much as 500,000 square kilometers."

The melting is off by a little more than the size of California. The method is is probably reliable reports

"Thus far, sea ice extent in 2009 is tracking ahead of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, so the predictions of an ice-free north pole might be premature."

Yes, Global Warming. People (Sientists) first say "We're causing Nuclear Winter!!" later "We're causing Global Warming!!" now "We're causing Climate Change!!". They've changed the name 3 times and because of that it's obviously nature that's making it colder and warmer, stop freaking out people!

global warming does exist. Yes we should use hydrogen instead of gasoline and obama's working on that. Don't litter. Thats right, but we can't invent teleports. Thats bening space and time. Dun think we can do that...

We aren't. Global warming causes brutal summers from greenhouse gasses. Let me explain how it works. First, we polute, which brings up greenhouse gasses cutting into our atmosphere then making it harder for light from the sun to escape thus causing global heating, or GW. But since we have been screwing with temps, the winters get colder. It is, just very gradually getting hotter and

I DONT WANT TO BE FREAKING YOU OUT! I once got really obsessivly scared about this, but it really will kick in in 100 years, but thats the next 2 generations and we need to stop it. So don't pollute. Your right on. Use cars less and hybrids (if you can). I dont want to be freaking you out but we need to learn what we've done and make sure we prevent it.

Well I bet in the next million years the galaxy will be gone. ^.^ There is a black hole that's going to kill the galaxy. How does that sound? Besides the earth won't have GW kick in the next 100 years cause by then my God will have come. Which also means the black hole won't suck us up.  smile  No I'm not freaken out of what you are saying cause it is not true and never will be true. lol so do you have any good games? Yes it is true and there is a huge black hole that will suck up our galaxy, but in more than 1million years for sure. Anyway, yea I have some good ones. Stained glass and Hack-0-matic are real nice.

You might need to read Ender's Game to understand this. I've finished the entire series but Shadow Puppets. I REALLY WANT TO READ THAT.

Re: Global Warming Yes it does.

The idea of global warming isn't 100% clear. Not to mention I've recently learned about this "global dimming" theory; that is, it is suspected that some pollutant block the sun's rays, affecting the precipitation patterns of some areas, and that because both "global dimming" and "global warming" are happening at the same time, this explains the heat spike in some areas and the temperature drop in others.

Certainly, by the way each is explained, both seem plausible. Then again, as a scientist, I always are skeptical of these theories. I always hear talk about other scientists doing research on this stuff, either trying to prove it or disprove it, but from all the data and reports I've seen always leads to, well, just theories based on the data and possible scenarios, but never anything what I could call hard core proof. It's so easy for science to disprove something, but it's never easy to really prove it because there's always a chance for it to be disproven (hence, the use of the word 'theories' in science).

In the end, I just call it 'recent global climate change' to spare myself from debate.  tongue

Regardless of whether one says it exists or not, I do think that the recent polluting activities of the human race and its effects are cause for concern (we can see its immediate effects on how we live), and certainly changing some of our daily habits is a good way to tackle this issue. I still think that is the main point to drive home, regardless of what the opinion is on global warming.

There is no right or wrong answer! It's like saying there's other life forms on other planets. You don't know untill you've checked every planet in the universe

Stop arguing about it that it exists or it doesn't. The answer is WE DON'T KNOW!!!
In my opinion it doesn't exist but people will support that or not support it.
Hope i didn't go too mad  tongue

I don't think it egsits.
If it does, there is an air powered car (AIR) that releases no co2. Honda have made a car with no emissions.what comes out the back:water.
It has happened before, but very slowly, so we could be to blame. But, the earth and sun have moved aswel...

NOT TRUE. The earth's temperature has stayed steady since 2001 and 2008 had the coldest pre-winter december on record. Also, over the past 200 years ocean temperature and hurricane activity have had 20-40 years of high activity followed by the same length of low activity. I think politicians on both sides (believers and disbelievers of global warming) manipulate the subject too much to get people into voting for them. Politics today are scary, and it's even more scarier when people don't bother to educate themselves on the topic and believe whatever they're told.

You know, I keep hearing this idea of a natural cycle, and I have no idea what exactly it is (everyone seems to espouse it as a weather or heating pattern), so I decided to look it up in the peer-reviewed databases. Which leads me to ask... what exactly in the world is this "natural cycle" that everyone keeps talking about?! Every time I ask someone about this "natural cycle", I don't get a sufficient answer.  sad

When querying this "natural cycle" subject in peer-reviewed databases, all I read is about chemicals in the environment have natural cycles with ultimately affect the Earth's temperature, and that the recent pollution has upset the carbon dioxide cycle, and that there are scientists who think that altering other cycles can alleviate the change done to the carbon dioxide cycle. But I'm not sure if this is what is mean by "natural cycle". Someone care to enlighten me on the subject?  tongue

I believe the natural cycle they are refering to is the cooling and warming that takes place every 50,000 years or so for whatever reason.  The evidence can be seen in ice core samples and other places but the cause is not fully understood.

A really good book that discusses this (and other topics) is "Physics for Future Presidents" by Richard Muller - I recommend it highly!

Hmm, I heard of research about that, they use ice core samples to determine weather patterns and other phenomena such as asteroid collisions and global volcanic eruptions. No wonder I didn't get that in my first query search, now I know what keywords to query into the database.

Thanks for the reading suggestion, Paddle2See! It looks interesting  smile
