I am curious. Given this thread started in 2007, are people still seeing the same browser crashing and memory leak behavior using Java Standard Edition 6 update 10 or above? If you go to http://java.com -> hit the "Do I have Java?" it will tell you what your browser is running against. Also, http://www.javatester.org/version.html will do the same. I ask because significant work has been put into Java SE 6 update 10 and above, the latest as of this date is 6u16, and there are options including the newer plugin ("plugin2") which unifies the applet/jnlp/webstart memory model and separates it from the browser such that there should be far fewer issues as mentioned early on. If anybody has feedback in this area (i.e., "hey, I'm on the latest bits and it still is horribly slow and crashes like mad" vs. "huh, the latest bits seem to behave much better") I'd be interested in seeing how the most recent bits are functioning in your browser on the scratch site.
