I recall reading on the forums that SCRATCH is compatible with MIDI files. Considering the MIDI files are usually greatly smaller in size than the usual WAV files that I use, I thought this was a great thing. So I started to import MIDI files into the default SCRATCH sounds folder for easy searching.
Today, I wanted to import a sound into a game I was working on, and the sound was a MIDI file. I went to search for it, via the SCRATCH interface, but none of my MIDI files were appearing in the 'Import Sound' window.
Thinking that the MIDI files were in another location, I decided to open the folder manually, but they were still there. They're just not appearing when I try to import via SCRATCH. (I could convert the MIDI files into WAV files, but WAV files tend to occupy a lot more memory, and I'd like to avoid this if at all possible.) Can anybody help me out here?
I'm using the newest version of SCRATCH (1.3.1), and my computer is a Windows XP.

Scratch does not have a built-in MIDI import feature. AddZero developed a procedure for importing a particular type of MIDI file using some external utilities and the List import feature. You can see the project here

Ah, I see. Apparently, I think I've been slightly mislead. I assumed that because the note blocks require a SYNTH audio device to be heard, SCRATCH could playback MIDI files.
That, and some old threads like this (http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=11389) tend to be misleading, hehe.
I guess I'll be using the converter, then
