when using browsers it is hard to know if someone is online because the browser just sends a request to the server and closes it, there is no easy way to know if the person has left or it is still using the browser
what other sites do is to assume if you have been using a site in the past X minutes (e.g. 10 minutes) it assumes you are still on the site

Instead of showing if the person is online or not maybe it is more accurate to show when was the last time a user visited the website. We could show this on the MyStuff page.

i just go to forums and see who is on, but i do want to know, when the last time someone was on
