We canno get the installed Mac dmg to open after putting in app folder

We get the "warning" box that says
"The following disk images failed to mount"
"MacScratch1.3.1dmg not recognized"

Please help, what are we doing wrong.
We are on a powerbook w/ 10.4.11

hm, maybe it's because it's a laptop, i'm not sure.
