Rating System for Projects (Rather than just LuvIts and Favorites)

I have seen a few other post regarding this topic, and I do see some sense in the consensus that LuvIts can also signify age rather than the relative *worth*  big_smile  of the project.  However, I think the addition of *Top Loved LATELY* to the front page has greatly helped the concept of a rating system along.  However I would like to bring attention to a site with an excellent system for rating user-submitted content: http//newgrounds.com.  They have a 1-5 rating system that works very well.  Their version of *featured* is determined by each projects average rating.  Also (though I'm not suggesting this), they have a feature where if when a project is first loaded on it continually scores poorly or if it continues to receive a certain number of poor ratings over time it is removed.  This is effective in filtering out the spammy stuff.  (But I don't think this is [yet] needed in Scratch.)

Does the Scratch team think a rating system like this could work?

What are other members ideas/suggestions?

If you notice they also have an actual rating system for submissions: a.k.a everyone, teen, mature, adult.  If you click a submission, before the screen for it comes up you are given the rating, two sample reviews and the author description.

I don't know if an NG type content rating system is right for the scratch website. The purpose of the scratch and this website is to let newcomers to programming experiment with the code blocks and showcase their creations. I like the way the scratch site operates because so many different types of projects are shown and the featured projects aren't just the most complex. The purpose of newgrounds.com is to display the top quality flash submissions they get so they can get more hits and increase the money they get from adds.

As for age ratings I do agree that there should be some sort of filtering system on the scratch site for projects with mature content.

Yes, archmage, I realize what you're saying.  I too like the way the Scratch website is currently run--I'm not proposing that Scratch adopt a totally NG like format, (although maybe that's the way I came across).  I just think a rating system would be fun that way--and even if projects got rated poorly they would still be displayed.  Maybe people could even learn more if people left contructive criticism along with their *0* rating  big_smile

Re: Rating System for Projects (Rather than just LuvIts and Favorites)

Rating would be fun for middle and higher scratchers but for beginners I have a feeling it would just discourage them and they might quit.

But Love its per different persons that have seen the project would also be nice.

Maybe you're right--I can see where it'd be discouraging.  I think the Luvits per different persons idea could be good too.

Re: Rating System for Projects (Rather than just LuvIts and Favorites)

Read the first post--there's nothing *wrong* with them really--I just think that a rating system could be more effective.  I like the way the website is run now--but this could be a potential improvement

Re: Rating System for Projects (Rather than just LuvIts and Favorites)

If a beginners project is bad, it would make them want to give up if it gets a bad rating.

Re: Rating System for Projects (Rather than just LuvIts and Favorites)

This kind of a dumb Idea but it could be your project only shows ratings after its been on long enough.

This isn't really a good idea but it might inspire a better one.
