Mac Scratch install method need to be changed

I always found it kind of odd that the Mac version of Scratch keeps all of its files inside a folder that the user is expected to put into the Applications folder.

I think that ALL of Scratch's files need to be stored IN THE ICON, just to keep things simple, and projects should be saved in ~/Scratch Projects instead of the package.

Makes sense?  smile  smile

Re: Mac Scratch install method need to be changed

Nothing seams wrong with the mac version...
P.S. to install most things for mac you have to drag it to the applications to install it... so the Scratch team cant do much about it...

I mean that instead of having to download like 5 folders along with the icon, just package it all up into one, which IS the icon, so it can simply be dragged into the Apps folder.

Re: Mac Scratch install method need to be changed

Actually, only the application-specific files should be included inside the .app bundle; all the support files (Projects, Media, Help) should technically be in ~/Library/Application Support.

That would require an installer, though, to get things in the right places. Installers de-simplify things. So the current method is a decent compromise, I guess.

What they really need to do (and this is being discussed in another thread) is stop the bad habit of defaulting the Save location to within the app's folder -- no app should ever save user documents within a subfolder of the Applications folder.
