Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

I think the next version of Scratch should include a small utility that checks for things like:

- Broadcast messages that nothing receives
- Floating blocks
- Sprite costumes that are not used
- Sounds that are never played
- etc

And corrects them. This could decrease loading times and clean up code.

Re: Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

Great idea! It could also check for things like multiplying/dividing by 0, etc.

Re: Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

I like that idea.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

Agreed. Shouldn't be THAT hard to implement.

Re: Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

It'd be nice though if it just notified you of them instead of deleting them right away in case you just are saving the blocks or broadcasts for something else.

Re: Suggestion: A Scratch "Debugger"

There's already an output terminal in Scratch, or at least Squeak. On Windows, right-click Scratch in the taskbar, select "VM Preferences", then Output Console, or Terminal, or something (I'm using a school mac). It would be pretty easy to use that as an output window...
