Re: testing blocks in forums

I think it is so you can show scrips in the forums. If that is what it is for, cool idea! Correct me if I was wrong.

Re: testing blocks in forums

yes, you are correct, basically, the goal is that you will be able to type in the name of blocks, and they will stack together in the forums...it seems to only work correctly in firefox......i'll be doing most of my testing in this thread, so you can stop by to see whats happening...we will give instructions for how to use it when its ready.

Re: testing blocks in forums

Um---I'm just seeing text in this forum thread, no blocks.  And that's with two different versions of firefox.

Re: testing blocks in forums

Well the blocks two blocks you have added so far at least copy for me in IE6. This will be nice when it's fully working.

[blocks]
<when green flag clicked>
<reset timer>
<move( 10 )steps>
<if>
<move( 10 )steps>
<reset timer>
<move( 10 )steps>
<end>
[/blocks]

Note: I just copied the text blocks (the "block blocks") from the earlier posting.  The 10 was in line with the rest of the text for the "move 10 steps" block.
Note 2: Copying still seems to work fine in IE6 and the 10 is back in line.  No arguement for the "If block" yet - but none in the text either.

Re: testing blocks in forums

kevin_karplus, can you not see the images in the very first post? If so, what version of firefox are you using?

S65, we will release the codes after they have been finalized (there are a few that still need to be worked out)...

thanks for your interest in this...its almost finished, I have a few more tests to do

I see no images at all in this thread.

I am currently running Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6

Just press quote at the message with the blocks to see how he did...

You mentioned some form of copying? Because if you need to type it out it actually takes less time to make and upload a screenshot.

I think the idea will be to be able to select blocks from a menu, the same way many message boards allow you to select smilies from a menu.

Re: testing blocks in forums

Yes, it probably will take less time to make a screenshot, but everyone doesn't have a place that they can host those images and keep forever so the forums don't have broken image links in the future. Using this system, the blocks will always stay here, even after people have left the scratch community and are not hosting that screen capture anymore.

I see the blocks now---I had the stupid smileys turned off, and just realized that the blocks were controlled by the same display variable in my profile.
