Why doesn't the Loading Bar ever go away?

If you have a lot of projects that get stuck on the "Loading..." screen when you are looking at them online, you may need to increase your Java Heap Memory.  How to do that is described in this topic:

http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8366

Thanks to Archmage for the idea of renaming this topic...I couldn't figure out how to do that so I set up this link to the other topic.

Hi Paddle2see! I hope your new Forum job is going well. And Thanks for the help! my computer recently got a virus, so I'm having a bit of trouble with Java.

I won't bother. I use the experimental flash viewer now.

But that's still experimental - you should use the Java Player or download the project.  smile

As JonathanPB pointed out, it's still experimental. It won't work perfectly with projects created with 1.4, and while it almost always loads, I've found the speeds of the projects to be consistently lower, especially with larger projects with more complex scripts.

Wolfie said that you can edit longer scripts there... but that's construction.

The viewer has tons of glitches - one of the most noticeable is timing.  hmm

Mmm... the actual problem behind that was that I couldn't even scroll down to the bottom of the script offline (I crashed Scratch about 15 times or so, trying to edit that script >.<), yet in the online player I can edit the script (albeit with a lot of lag... but that's better than crashing Scratch, I guess  tongue )

The project might be too big. Download it that always works for me.

Yeah, I have a lot of free heap memory, sometimes it's just because the project is too big. Though most of these work in the Experimental Viewer because it runs on Flash.

This approach doesn't seem to work for me. Perhaps it is because I am on a netbook?

Every computer has its limits - and on a netbook, the limits will probably be far more restrictive than on a full-sized laptop or a desktop.

Your best bet is to download  smile
