Writing Code

Does anyone know if there is a way to Create the code in a text editor and then just save it as a scratch file?

Re: Writing Code

Why would you want to do that?

Re: Writing Code

For those of use with repetitive stress injuries (such as carpal tunnel syndrome or tendinitis), excessive use of the mouse can be painful and harmful.  Typing provides a less stressful way to enter information.  Although drag-and-drop programming is a very powerful entry method for beginners, many of us would like to have the alternative of not using the mouse so much.

Re: Writing Code

That said, if you have progressed beyond the need/desire to drag-and-drop, you should perhaps be looking at a more advanced programming language  wink

Re: Writing Code

I progressed beyond the need for drag-and-drop before the mouse was invented.
That doesn't stop me from wanting to do some programming in scratch.
I haven't been pushing for a keyboard-only input option, but the Scratch team might want to look into it to accommodate students with physical disabilities.

Re: Writing Code

Don't overlook the portability and archival advantages of a text based format - one reason that "hardware description languages" are popular.
