In the Offlineplayer every Object got it's own volume-setting. That enables many great effects. In the Online-Player there seems to be an error with that, as you can see in "Metamorphose", a Scratch-Program where you go along that famous picture of M.C.Escher and hear the things changing sound while changing their form http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/MartinWollenweber/322587 .
Attention: To get "Metamorphose" work in your Java-Player you first have to adjust the memory-maximum it uses, because of the soundfile sizes of "Metamorphose". http://scratch.mit.edu/users/Paddle2See showed me how to increase that and solve problems with many other big Scratch Programs:http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=59262#p59262.

It would be helpful if the Scratch-Website would give that hint every time before a Scratch-Program is loaded that is to big for the actual Java-Player settings. I wondered a month and month why I can't load some projects and with that tip of http://scratch.mit.edu/users/Paddle2See solved it: Many other Scratchers will have the same problem, but don't find the hint.
Edit: wrong link replaced

Note: The tip that MartinWollenweber is refering to that helped him with the Java Player is the "How to Increase the Java Heap Size" which can be viewed here:

It would be nice to get a warning when the Java Player has run out of memory...I believe that request is already on the bug list.
As for the volume control not working in the Java Player...I remember hearing of that from other posts but I am not sure if it is on the bug list...or if anything can be done about it. I will try to find out.
By the way...the Metamorphos project is a must-see for Escher fans...be sure and download it as the sound is a major part of the project!
