You can get an idea of the quality of your link by using this web site: http://just-ping.com/
If you don’t know your IP address you can start with this web site: http://whatismyipaddress.com/
This is the first time that I’ve posted links to these two sites. The forum mods have been removing links to commercial sites, but the services on both of these sites is free, however the just-ping site has a link to another site that does sell commercial services. Both of the sites that I have linked in this post are useful and free, but I’ll trust the judgment of the mods.
If you consistently get a failure it could be the firewall software, if installed, on your PC. Some firewall products can block outbound traffic by application. It might let IE talk to the Scratch web site but block other programs. If it is blocking scratch.exe then I think you will need to create an exception in your firewall software.
If you don’t find a solution here on the forum then I suggest sending an email to the Scratch admins.
