x64

I'm too new to post in the 2.0 forums, so please don't close this.
Will there be a 64 bit version of Scratch 2.0 for download? I just think it would be cool for Scratch to be able to take advantage of the abilities of 64 bit Windows.

Re: x64

I've always wanted this, but this would really depend on whether or not there is a 64bit version of Flash. Or Adobe Air, if that's what's used for the offline version.

I think there are both.

64 bit scratch would improve... Absolutely nothing... Scratch isn't CPU intensive and wouldn't benefit from more RAM...

It would on a computer as bad as mine is.

Re: x64

I would assume you can run any version of Scratch 2.0 with 64-bit Flash, but I don't know if it uses anything differently in such cases.

I guess the Flash VM would just allocate more than 4 GB RAM should you need them, and I really doubt you'll use that much in a Scratch project.

Both my MacBook Pro and school netbook (Lenovo ThinkPad X131e) are 64bit and 2.0 lags on my school netbook. My MacBook has 8GB RAM and 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor. The netbook has 4GB RAM and I'm not sure about the clock speed, but I think it has an Intel Celeron. I just three-finger tapped "Intel Celeron" as I was typing this and Wikipedia says "their performance is often significantly lower when compared to similar CPUs with higher-priced Intel CPU brands". The netbook also has an SSD. My MacBook does not have an SSD.
I think the performance just depends on what CPU, clock speed, and RAM you have.

Re: x64

I get scratch running out of memory on ambitious projects, and I have 12GB RAM.

Are you sure you've allocated all of that to Flash?

Also, guys, just so you know since it seems some people don't, 64-bit does not equal more RAM. It means that each variable can store 2^64 different values as opposed to 2^32. That'd mean that you could have variables go up to higher numbers, not make it faster.

How do you allocate more memory to Flash? This could really make the project editor lag less on projects that use a lot of stamping!
