I am creating pcbs. I use the muriatic acid and h2o2 etchant. I also made the acid.

Re: printed circuit boards

Cool; I only experiment in a cheap plugboard. What are you etching them for?

Re: printed circuit boards

After reading this message, I clearly see that I am unfamiliar with much terminology that you guys use. Where is a good resource to get caught up. Is there a glossary somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

Re: printed circuit boards

I haven't ever printed my own PCBs (but I know how to). I usually just use breadboard and pre-made "PC Board".

My method of muriatic acid etches slowly. Vinegar, and salt. Also hydrogen peroxide for oxides.

That's not really muriatic acid.  hmm  Yeah you have H+ and Cl- in solution but their presence doesn't automatically impart some sort of stronger effect. I'm a little rusty on my chemistry so I'm not 100% on that but that's just my two cents.

(For those wondering, muratic acid is also known by its chemical name, hydrochloric acid, or hydrogen chloride (HCl) in solution. That's a strong acid, in constrast to vinegar, or acetic acid, which is by definition a weak acid.)

An acid is based on how many H+ ions are in solution, and because HCl is a strong acid, more ions disassociate. Which reaction do you have in question here so I can answer that?

No question. My point is that adding sodium chloride isn't going to affect the equilibrium between acetic acid and acetate + proton in any appreciable way unless there's an additional chemical effect that I'm missing. It doesn't increase the potency of the acid added.
