Spanish love letters!

This would, at any previous time in my life, go in the "Making & Creating" forum, since all of the Spanish love letters I had seen before were ones that I'd written on my own whether it was solely to practice my Spanish and creatively express infatuation for another person or because I wanted to practice my Spanish and creatively exercise my writing skills. So pretty much what I did was write fictional love letters in Spanish or non-fictional ones (With no intention of sending them) in my free time, and I did this a pretty great deal. And I didn't always know very much Spanish at all (I still don't) so I've had to get pretty crafty with making things sound romantic with my limited vocabulary e_e

So before I'd always been writing them, but now I've finally got the chance to read a real one, and in the (second) best possible way: I found it written on the back cover of a book (of Spanish sonnets, that I got second-hand) (I'm assuming the actual best possible way to've read one would be to have one written and sent to me :,( A girl can dream!)

So yeah. It was very strange. I always wanted to find some cryptic letter or notes or something written or stuck in a book (I've always thumbed through used/library book pages to see if anything of interest'd been tucked in)

My Spanish isn't that great and neither was the person's handwriting but I can make out most of it

It's a little specific of a thing to be reading, but I guess you can discuss anything unexpected you've ever found hidden in a book :U I've found business cards and things mostly

.... ;_;

I hate it when I get a really old book with someone's name written on the inside cover because the first thing that I think is "This person is probably dead now" and I can't help it

Are love letters written in Spanish this big of a thing

The most meaningful thing I've found written is a book is our family's copy of Half-Blood Prince where my mom speculated "Regulus Black?" in the margins next to "RAB" and spoiled the plot point for me.

I don't think so. I just do it because it's fun to see what I can come up with when I hardly know anything in the language

Like with body parts, I didn't learn "heart" but I did learn "head" so instead of saying "baby i lov u ur always in my heart" I had to say "in my head"!! I don't know why that particular example came to mind first but it did

My knowledge of Spanish is very, very, very limited so I can't fathom how I would write a love letter in the language.

Re: Spanish love letters!

I'd be totally chill with actually posting mine if I wasn't worried about them being picked apart by people who know Spanish better than I do :,( I'm too sensitive for criticism! +They aren't that interesting. Some are a little personal but you wouldn't know which ones are real xDDD

I'd guess it's kinda like writing one in French: there's something oddly romantic about letters in languages foreign to one. Plus, Spanish is very open to metaphors and figurative senses, allowing one that knows the language to write some crazy poetry  big_smile

I'm a native Spanish speaker myself, but the closest thing to a love letter I've done are ideas for song lyrics (which I never finish)

Haces que estas manos heladas
se sientan humanas y cálidas.
Haces que esta indecente morada
parezca un palacio ideal.

Unexpected things in books? Well, I hide my money in books so I don't spend it all at once. :U

Re: Spanish love letters!

there's a note in this bible my grandma stole from a hotel in michigan (she thought it was ours and didn't know that in america they leave bibles in hotels)

it reads, in all caps and blue ballpoint:

'                                                     1-22-99

Peanut,
I'm going to meet the lady to see the apartment across, then Im [sic] going to court at 10:AM [sic], then work at 11:30 even though I might be late. Thanks for not showing up last night, I guess I might as well get use [sic] to you not being there for me this is court date #2 and you have not been there.

Thanks [this bit is partially torn off but still readable]
4-nothing                                 leave my cheese
Tyesh [?? illegible]                                  $140.00
                                                   at the front desk

not really a love letter but still something I found in an old book

Re: Spanish love letters!

Derp. Once I found a $25 iTunes Giftcard in a book... It was used  tongue
I speak Venezuelan Spanish :3 Parents grew up there.
Te quiero-I love you
Meh, I've never written a love letter. I've never liked anyone, no one's ever liked me. I love being me. No one EVER makes rumors about me cause I'm a harsh, selfish, bad looking derp. And that's how I like it.

Re: Spanish love letters!

People've made rumours about me, but they've been interesting as heck. I've heard that I've gotten pregnant, moved to Alaska, got hooked on cocaine, moved to Alaska and got hooked on cocaine, did a stint in the mental health ward, and died (only the first and second to last are true but they weren't at the time of the rumours)

That's what happens when you suddenly leave school and leave the reasoning to 13 year olds. I don't mind it and I never did, it's creative and flattering if anything

The only rumour spread about me that I didn't like was that I was an atheist. I am totally comfortable in my Jewish faith
