A "tulpa"

A tulpa is a sentient being that lives out of your head pretty much. After enough training you'll be able to actually see, hear, feel, smell it and it will think for itself and everything, supposedly. Supposedly it's something Tibetan monks used while meditating (Something like that)

I've heard it described as "forcing yourself to go insane" but I think it's just a cute thing to do and not particularly harmful to my mental health

It's a little hard to explain

http://tulpa.info/guides/what-is-a-tulpa.html

That explains it a little better than I can I guess.

But anyway mine's named Charlemagne. He likes gossip and wearing dresses, and my friends don't really like him

Re: A "tulpa"

it sounds really interesting and i can think up a lot of ways it would be cool to have (someone to talk to, collaborate artistically with, possibly have them do my homework lol)

however i'm afraid that it's not a good thing to do to your mind
so i'd rather not

Re: A "tulpa"

Yeah, it seems a little dangerous I guess. A big part of it is being able to switch off the part of your brain that knows it isn't real

Re: A "tulpa"

At first I had thought it was a cross between a Tuba and a Tulip before I opened this thread  tongue  Reading about it now.

Tip of the whatever: Don't post in threads older than 2 weeks unless your post will actually be useful.
It's the last day of 1.4! *cries* (quote from NeilWest, rest by me) by the time you read this it probably will be 2.0  sad

Well, I've been pretty good at making myself think that things aren't there when they are (I practice with the posters on the walls in my room, since all I have to do is picture a purple splotch instead of the poster and convince myself that's what I see). I imagine seeing thing instead of making things go away might be a little more difficult but it's something I'm willing to work on

And every once in a while I'll conjure up the idea of Charlemagne's scent again just to remind myself. Maybe it'd help to find something that actually smells like I imagine him to, for practicing? I dunno

I've been doing sketches of how I picture him also

But yes, you did give me the idea xP

Re: A "tulpa"

I used to imagine that there was a cartoon series in my head.

So is that a tupla?

No. The "in my head" part totally ruins it. For it to be a "tulpa," you have to fully convince yourself that you are seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling the being. Like you can see them walk across the room, and you can smell them and feel them hold your hand. Much more than a cartoon going on in your head, it's a person (or animal or object, because apparently people make that kind of tulpa...) going on in your life

I really wish you best of luck, I think the article I posted might have some other information + resources for aiding your creation/keeping up with it (+ you have me and jukyter here, though I've got to wait 3 minutes between posts!). It's all fairly difficult and can take a while to fully accomplish but I think it's kind of fun somehow :p

I really just kind of see it as a game, like "How real can you make Charlemagne?" that I test my imagination's strength with (So I don't think I'm crazy)

Oh I've heard about this.  big_smile  It's very interesting but I don't have the time, interest and perhaps the mindpower to create one. I'd be stumped at the list of traits part.  neutral

I mean your tulpa can't be perfect if you want it to be realistic! Just, um, tolerable. Give Weather a chance ):

I could see it everytime I fell asleep, but not the others.

It was like a different episode every time I fell asleep - and it was self-enforced.

Re: A "tulpa"

it seems kind of weird to call it a tulpa
like, tulpas are by definition something that is not real that you convince yourself is
so by calling it one, you're basically admitting that it's not real and you're just tricking yourself
