Re: PC Part Picker

Ugh, you guys are buying bad processors and then super graphics processors. Here are some tips:
1. No need for a CPU cooler unless you are overclocking
2. No need for a sound card, the processor can handle that
3. Get an Intel for gaming and an AMD for other stuff unless you have a huge budget
4. For gaming, the graphics processor is more important than the processor (note: this doesn't mean buy a bad processor just because you can find a good graphics processor)
5. Microcenter has amazing deals on unlocked Intels and AMDs
6. NZXT cases look epic, even the cheap ones

Here is mine: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Red_dino/saved/1qqH It's my budget gaming build.

Okay, then should I swap the sound card for a quad-core CPU (i5)?

Yeah! the i5-3570(k) is the best CPU for gaming but really any i5 is good.

EDIT: got rid of the 3570 instead of 3570k. Here's my new updated one.

Re: PC Part Picker

I'm surprised that no one has gone overboard yet.... so I'll do it for you.

Unless you need to play Crysis 3, with Farcry 3 and HD video encoding in the background, you don't need a system like this. And if you don't know what HD video encoding is, you definitely don't need it.  tongue

@poopo, Time for a tip to you: There really is no reason to buy an AMD CPU right now, unless you are on a very constricted budget. Almost any i3 or i5 (and of course i7) will beat any AMD chip you choose by a country mile. Not to mention they suck up way too much power. For example, the A10-5800K you chose uses 80 watts at full load, while the i3-3225 only will use 40, and performs a little better to boot. Also only $20 more than the A10 chip.

Quad-core Intel i7 processor
32 GB of RAM
10 TB of hard disk space
The best Nvidia graphics available
USB 3.0
Blu-Ray disk reader and writer with Lightscribe
Surround sound Bose speakers
1080p monitor
Debian of the OS
Scratch 1.4 and 2.0
Let me know if I missed anything.

Lol, knew that you'd come and school me. XD I guess I need to redo my build then. Even the FX series is that bad?

Hmm, I think 10 terabytes should be enough, unless you are trying to download the internet.

xD

The FX series is much better, but a decent i5/7 (I would recommend the i5-3570K) will still give much better performance.

Yeah.

6gb may be a better choice if you want to do lighter video game but outside of that there's no reason overcompensate if you aren't going to use it.

Re: PC Part Picker

and besides RAM is the most easily upgradable part in a desktop pc, so if you ever decide that it isn't enough, you can just pop in another DIMM.

Re: PC Part Picker

I have 6gb of memory and I usually do fine with running a bunch of Chrome tabs + Skype + video games (the heaviest I've run with everything else up was only Borderlands 2 though) + itunes + a bunch of stuff that doesn't use up a lot of memory separately (But it kind of does when I've got 15 of them running)

But ideally I'd probably have like 8 just so I don't have to worry about not having enough ever :'( I kind of obsessively check how much I'm using with the task manager and if I had 8gb I'd probably not do that

I would rather be alone than pretend I feel alright

The main point I'm trying to drive home is that s/he can get twice as much RAM that is twice as fast and a newer model more cheaply then what s/he is currently getting.
