Matzah!

Happy Passover!

I'm pretty awful at cooking, but matzah is pretty simple. Flour, water, salt, oil. It could be tastier but oh well, eh? I don't actually see any other recipe / cooking / baking threads here, so I guess we can talk about more than matzah :C

I think it's a kind of bread, but I find that questionable sometimes. During Passover there are a bunch of things we aren't supposed to eat I think (I'm not very Orthodox so I don't really follow that kind of thing, I just make matzah) and matzah is pretty simple and all-okay ingredients

Re: Matzah!

My mom makes the best matzah! It's called Chocolate Matzah Butter Crunch (or something using those words, it's hard to remember the order) It's soooooo good! It barley tastes like matzah; it tastes like a real dessert!

That... Sounds really good :o I might have to try making something like that to get my sisters to try matzah! I've only ever tried making it plain xD

Hebrew school sounds really fun but I've never gone to it before and I feel like I'd have to have started really young and it's too late now!

It's never too late!!!!!!!!! Half of the adults at my temple have never been to hebrew school but they attend some of the adult classes! People even have their bat/bar mitzvah when they're 80! If you're interested, please go!

Re: Matzah!

"Hebrew school" was not actually something I thought existed (unless it is just like Sunday School or something).
Are they private schools?
What precisely does it entail?

Basically they're after-school Sunday schools that happen once a week, only they're focused on Hebrew.

I see, so you have to go it to have Bat/Bar Mitzvah?

Re: Matzah!

Sort of. That's not really how it is at my school, each school is different. We actually don't learn how to speak in hebrew even. We learn basic words like "stop", "yes", "good morning", "mom", "dad", colors, stuff like that and then we learn how to read and write. So we can see hebrew and be like "me-la-me-heem" but have no idea what it means until we translate it to english. The rest of the time is spent learing about jewish history and holidays. Then you learn the basic stuff like veihavtah (not sure how to spell it). Then you have seperate tuturing time for the bar/bat mitzvah stuff. You don't have to go to hebrew school to have one. You can just have seperate tuturing times, which will have to be doubled granted you don't know how to read or write because you haven't been in school.
