We are Daddy (Josh) and Jalen. Daddy is 32 years old and Jaslen is less than a month away from being 7 years old. Jalen has wanted to be a video game designer for over two years now. Daddy is a former U.S. Army Sergeant and currently in his last semester at Missouri State University.
With time for projects at a premium, Daddy downloaded Scratch over a year ago for Jalen, but never got around to any formal training. This changed two weeks ago, and both have been studying hard using Super Scratch Programming Adventure as a learning tool.
Daddy thought this might be too complicated for Jalen, but Jalen is sooooo smart! He has learned about x and y axis, as well positive and negative numbers. Daddy has found that when in doubt, use a Super Mario reference and things become easier.
Our first gaming project is called "Techno Space." We're still having fun finding new ways to improve upon the design of our project.
We hope to be valued members of the Scratch community! We just recently shared our gaming project so please let us know what suggestions or encouragement you have for us!
Thank you!

Hiya Daddy and Jalen! Welcome to Scratch! 7 years old isn't too young to start and I believe Jalen will become a great programmer in time! My sister recently joined and she's 7 also!
I look forward to what you guys will make together! I'll check out the project you just made. Again, welcome to Scratch!

Welcome!
Modifications, as modding Scratch, or modding games made in Scratch?

Right now, we're focused on making modifications to our textbook project that is available here on the site. We hope to eventually make our own game without any textbook help!

Soniku's already linked to Wes64, but I've got another awesome Scratcher: richjones69. His 2 latest projects don't really show his skill to the full extent, so check out the others, like Reversi or Darts Champion. They're awesome.

Thank you both! Gravitation, I appreciate the link. I'm going to sit down with Jalen in a few days and we're gonna study a couple of projects from Wes64 and richjones69 to see if we can find cool scripts that might be beneficial to our projects down the road. Jalen seems very intrigued by what is possible. I absolutely love seeing his imagination fire up!

Great! Also, another AMAZING scratcher is RHY3756547. But he was banned from Scratch years ago.

Welcome to scratch.
I think that it's really never to early to learn a trade, so I think that's great that your son is starting so young.
I love that you and him are doing it as a father teaching son endeavor, it's definitely appropriate, and I wish y'all both well.

Well, I would say any project that generates 3D images.

Guys, thank you so much for the feedback. Today we're going to download a few Scratch apps and see what makes them tick (and play them, of course!)
