Minimod

I just wanted to know what is Minimodding (your definition), and if you think it is bad for Scratch. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding to that term.

Please do not think I am challenging people by asking what minimodding is.

Thank you for your support.

Re: Minimod

I define minimodding as a person telling other people that an action they have taken is somehow wrong (e.g. disrespectful, posted in the wrong forum, etc.) rather than (or in addition to) reporting it.

While this can sometimes be helpful (esp. stuff like being in the wrong forum), it can also cause issues, such as if a minimodder makes another user feel bad or says something incorrect (like maybe they did post in the right forum) and the [real] mod has to come and clarify.

Re: Minimod

Minimodding is where a person who isn't a Mod acts like one and/or thinks they are going to become a Mod,

for example: Telling someone they shouldn't be doing something that breaks the rules, and not leaving it up to the Mods.
another example: You tell a Mod on people every single time they have done something wrong.
another example: Acting like a Mod.
another example: making forum posts about the terms and conditions/rules.

Re: Minimod

Sincerely, to me, minimodding is a way to help the Scratch Team. I don't think it's a bad thing.

Unless the person is only helping because they think they'll become a Moderator because of that. And also if they are rude to other people.

Exactly. I act minimod-ish on 2.0. But I asked Lightnin, and he said '' YESSSS'' Really! XD

Re: Minimod

Well, in another forum I was on, minimodding was defined as pretending to be a mod (ex. pretending to have mod powers), but normal telling people something was OK (as long as it wasn't rude). In other words, here's an example about a question about the world menu. Both examples are posted by a normal user.
Good: "I think this should be in QaS; but I'll let a mod see since I've reported it  smile  Anyway, it looks like you've opened the world menu..."
Bad: "Moved to QaS - Please post topics in the right forum next time"
So I consider kindly telling people about something, in addition to reporting it OK.

(Oh and sorry for minor bump)

Tip of the whatever: Don't post in threads older than 2 weeks unless your post will actually be useful.
It's the last day of 1.4! *cries* (quote from NeilWest, rest by me) by the time you read this it probably will be 2.0  sad

Real mods sometimes do that :3

Well, in that example, it was a normal user saying that. A real mod saying that would be OK of course, but a normal user doing so was just considered to be spam. After all, saying "I've locked this" doesn't really contribute to the discussion (unless you actually have)  smile

Normal users wouldn't say that they've closed the thread, since they can't.  tongue

Well, that was their definition, and apparently some people have done it before over there. But if people don't pretend to be mods by doing things like that, I would think its fine  smile
