Yes, please don't make forum topics to advertise your forum topics.  That would result in a lot of extra topics that wouldn't be adding any new information.

Instead, just add a new post to the bottom of your topic to bring it to the top of the index for a while.  That's known as "bumping" your topic - and it's okay to do once or twice a day - just don't get too carried away with it.  Most people just put "Bump" in the new post to let people know what's going on.
