I can't really find an appropiate link, but most of their music is heavily rock-based.
no

Weird Al

metallica isn't rock in my opinion
avenged sevenfold is metal
dream theater is metal (although people who like to sound sophisticated call it progressive rock)
weird al parodies songs of multiple different genres, so again, I wouldn't put it with rock
I'd put Simon + GarfunkEL down for rock, nowadays we consider rock to be heavier but I think it falls into the category
yes to velvet underground
and the beatles
(these aren't votes)

The xx are really good. I vote for them and The White Stripes.
I thought XX made dubstep. Hmm...

Where have YOU been?
In their earlier stuff (Love Me Do and such) they were rock and roll but their studio stuff is mostly rock, though it goes over several genres./implying rock and roll and rock are different
I asked my dad one day and he said that "rock and roll" is generally simpler stuff (Love Me Do, I Wanna Hold Your Hand) while "rock" is going to be more complex things (im afraid ill be laughed at for getting the examples in this section wrong).
So it would flow like blues->rock and roll->rock->variations
I sincerely hope you're talking about chronological progression because anything else would be high treason
see, it's up in the air for me because you were talking about simplicity and man, oh man

Rock & Roll sounds cooler though. Rock seems to have a broader definition, of mainly 4/4 time music with drums, but even that doesn't apply to all Rock.
Rock & roll sounds more like 50s-60s poppy stuff but it's definitely not an official term.
And most music is in 4/4 and lots of rock music doesn't have drums so I don't think either of those are qualifiers.Rock&Roll is more 3 chord stuff also.
R&R is different from blues.
thank you

Pretty good. I also like the Scottish indie alternative rock band Frightened Rabbit.

Their golden years were the 80s, but it was their 70s songs that got them famous.Actually, I always thought it was the other way around. I always thought the 70's was their golden age (Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races), and the 80's material was what got them famous ("Under Pressure", "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want to Break Free", "One Vision", etc.).
I thought "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen", "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions", etc. got them famous.
Yeah....

Yeah....
Well, those songs were released in 1975, 1974, 1977, and 1977, respectively

That doesn't mean they were immensely popular in 1975, 1974, 1977, and 1977, respectively

Metallica is awesome because they make awesome songs, such as Master Of Puppets, or Enter Sandman.
A7X is awesome because they're awesome
Weird Al is awesome because he is extra creative with his lyrics. Just look at the lyrics to Taco Grande.
And Dream Theater is awesome because they have an insane guitarist

You can't really explain why you like certain things and trying to makes you sound kind of silly. Saying something is awesome "because they're awesome" doesn't really tell me anything I didn't already know you thought and doesn't elaborate at all. "Awesome" is a pretty generic term
I like a lot of weird music that I've never met anyone else who could get into it, and I just deal with that rather than trying to explain why I like it so much
