They are not the same as DVDs at all, actually, especially at a technical standpoint. VHS movies are recorded onto magnetic tape, which is then read by the VCR. DVD movies are recorded digitally onto the disc, which are read by a laser.

I don't find them "amazing", I just find them nostalgic because I had VHS for the first few years of my life (I also had DVD but we didn't have a whole lot for it because DVD was expensive back then!). But I still admire VHS as a video format and still keep a lot of my tapes, make sure my VCRs are in perfect condition, and still buy tapes from eBay.

Um... I had the same thing though. The technological point is obviously different, but the actual VHS on screen while you watch it isn't THAT much.

Eh, well, DVD quality far exceeds VHS, I can say that for sure.

Which is why he was saying that he can't see the point in "loving" VHS. The tapes wear out, the tapes can fall out, you have to rewind, etc.
I've heard Betamax would have been a better format if the VHS didn't win with the marketing (think HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray, but where HD-DVDs were actually quite a bit better)

I think we have a couple old Disney movies on VHS (Sleeping Beauty maybe, A Beauty and the Beast Christmas, Lady and the Tramp).

Regarding the VHS Star Wars sets, this article is hilariously (and disappointingly) long.

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

My dad actually has an HD-DVD player, funnily enough, and a bunch of movies along with it too, including: Batman Begins, The Bourne Identity, 300, Swordfish, The Italian Job, Pitch Black, etc.

Apparently Beta was the superior format but I really have no way to justify that...

Concerning the VHS Star Wars set, one of the changes that really works me up is that they changed Sebastian Shaw to Hayden Christiansen at the end of RotJ.

Re: Old VHS Tapes that you love!

I have a whole bunch from when I was little. I have Cinderella, Beauty and the beast,The Lion King, Rugrats in Paris, Snow White, The Little Mermaid (I cracked my head open trying to reach it when I was two. I was tough about it.), Toy Story, Veggie Tales: A Snoodle's tale, Veggie Tales Dave and the Giant Pickle, Veggie Tales Josh and the Big Wall, these weird Christmas shorts from a REALLY long time ago, Spookley the Square Pumpkin (I recorded it from TV when I was little), and Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too.

Re: Old VHS Tapes that you love!

Hey everyone! Sorry about the long wait but I purchased two new VHS Videocassettes for $1 from Dollarama today! One is about Don Cherry and the other is about crosscountry skiing. A lot of Dollarama stores from Canada sure have a lot of old VHS Videocassettes for a buck or two, so check them out if you live in that country!

My ten year old sister is familiar with VHS tapes and has used them all her life. I guess she's super old too e_e

But anyway I found my stockpile of Sailor Moon tapes and lugged an old TV with a built in VCR up to my room to watch them. Since, I've been looking through Goodwill/our basement for interesting tapes to make use of this large space-taker-upper in my room. I've found old Scooby Doo tapes / taped Scooby marathons and movies like Shrek and stuff

You still watch Arthur though. There's no nostalgia in it now.

It was quite a bit of tapes though, about 30 of them, I'm not going to list every one.

Plus MiaFan's post seemed really weird sounding to me when I was reading it...

Re: Old VHS Tapes that you love!

I had this idea a while ago of like making a mixVHStape, like recording clips from movies and TV shows and commercials and whatever and compiling them on one tape to give to someone but then I realised how strange that is and how poorly it would work

I'll still probably try to do it, but that doesn't mean I still think it's a good idea
