Old VHS Tapes that you love!

Discuss your favourite videotapes that you loved so much when you were young.

Here is what I've watched lately:

I've watched an episode of Country Mouse and City Mouse Adventures on my Toshiba DVD-VCR Combo plugged in to a Harman-Kardon AVR and an LG HDTV with Dolby Pro-Logic IIX enabled because the Dolby Surround soundtrack used on that videotape is encoded for that kind of matrix decoders for the 7.1 surround sound system that we have in the home theatre.

I've also watched a short film by Pixar in 1986 called Luxo JR. on the Toy Story 2 VHS and there might be some glitches on that tape as well!

So, Discuss away!

The episode was "Tentacool & Tentacruel" It was basically a Pokemon terrorist attack. However it was never taken out of the opening theme where Tentacruel smashes into a tower  hmm

The episode was only banned from like 2002-2006, by the way, as opposed to other banned episodes like Electric Soldier Porygon.

We recently re-found our old Star Wars VHS trilogy that we believe doesn't have any edits aside from the name and number being added in to the first.

Most movies worth anything to me I have on DVD by now. (exception: Bug's Life. Great movie and not mentioned enough when people bring up Pixar!)

Yes that's the one I have, it's the 1995 release, I believe.
My dad said that he got them because he saw the first film in theaters when he was 12, and then saw Empire when he was 15, but he said that he never saw Jedi in theaters.

I never owned Bug's Life on VHS though (at least back then I didn't, I recently got it with the big load of Disney stuff on eBay), I only had Toy Story 1 and 2 and Monster's Inc.

My friend actually has a Finding Nemo VHS, which is really cool.

Funny thing is that I actually did own this very old DVD release of Toy Story, but somehow it got lost or got destroyed by the DVD player, I don't remember. This is what it looked like, from what I exactly remember:

Re: Old VHS Tapes that you love!

Off the top of my head, on VHS I have Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer
Used to have some old Blues Clues ones =P
Ahhhmmmm...Now I gotta go check!
Okay, I also have some Disney ones

Out of them, my favorites are Rudolph, The little Mermaid, and Aladdin and the King of Theives. I own Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, but haven't ever watched them. I watched the Little Mermaid for the first time this summer.

Wow, Pokemon has a lot more banned episodes than i thought.

Others were banned because of guns, earthquakes and something else that would be inappropriate for the forums.

My friend (who is 18, he's a Pokemon fan and grew up with Gen I) said that he'd seen the banned episodes. I have too, they're really not that hard to find at all, with the unlimited power of the internet.

I have watched Electric Soldier Porygon, it was of course in Japanese, but had English subtitles. It's a shame that episode got banned, though, it was a great concept.

They just seem the same as DVDs and Blu-Ray with less quality. I'm not into that "nostalgia" stuff where people just say things are awesome because they had them when they were a kid though.  hmm

Because you're probably too young to have properly experienced them. :P

They are not the same as DVDs at all, actually, especially at a technical standpoint. VHS movies are recorded onto magnetic tape, which is then read by the VCR. DVD movies are recorded digitally onto the disc, which are read by a laser.

I don't find them "amazing", I just find them nostalgic because I had VHS for the first few years of my life (I also had DVD but we didn't have a whole lot for it because DVD was expensive back then!). But I still admire VHS as a video format and still keep a lot of my tapes, make sure my VCRs are in perfect condition, and still buy tapes from eBay.

Um... I had the same thing though. The technological point is obviously different, but the actual VHS on screen while you watch it isn't THAT much.

Eh, well, DVD quality far exceeds VHS, I can say that for sure.
