Social Norms

What are your thoughts on social norms and conventions?

Do you find them necessary/unnecessary?
What are some conventions you see or follow which seem strange?
To what extent do they influence your behaviour?

Re: Social Norms

Hi catachresis - it's an interesting topic - but I don't feel it's a good fit for our forums.   These forums are for Scratchers to share books/games/movies/etc. that they find inspiring.  And, while you have cited a couple of sources, you haven't related them to the discussion in any way.  What is it about this topic (and those particular sources) that you find inspiring?

We set up the forums in this way to help make sure that the conversation at least starts out with a strong focus on a concrete item (the media source and the Scratcher's perception of it) rather than having people just throw out random topics for general discussion.   It is not our goal to provide an open-topic discussion forum - our experience has shown that they take too much moderating for our resources.  Instead, we provide a specific service to members of the Scratch community - a moderated place for them to share their passions.

I'm going to close this topic as being a "force-fit".  Please keep the goals of the forum and the posting guidelines in mind for any future topics you may create.
