Frozen Coco's Diyath Yavin: New single - "Gold Ringers"

http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j377/DIYmit/GoldRingers_zps748c9b9d.png

To all, I give you my second solo single! ‘Gold Ringers’ is a country number I wrote back a couple of years ago and the structure has changed quite a bit (as is with most of my old song ideas). It has transformed from the originally intended folk song it was to my first recorded country song. Even the instrument solo on this track was initially played to the style of folk guitar but was later changed to piano. All the instrument parts are played entirely by me in this solo venture. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

VERSE 1

One day, must be some seven years ago,
I was with my girl in my four-wheel drive on the road
We weren’t doing much, just trekking out on our own
I said, “Watch it girl; ‘cause we sure ain’t going home”

VERSE 2

We wandered east, for a tavern we should find
‘Twas a stormy night then I finally saw the sign
We soon had stopped and parked that truck of mine
Then we stepped inside to a world of another kind

CHORUS

Then that night, as the stars were bright,
She said, “Darling, we’ve got time”
I scratched my head as I lay in bed
I said, “We’re working out every dime”

VERSE 3

The very next noon, we checked out of that local saloon
We trekked even more, until we’d both seen the moon
She saw a motel but the night man told us it was full
So we hopped in the back seat and fell asleep too soon

Oh come on!

[INSTRUMENTAL PIANO SOLO]

CHORUS

Then that night, as the stars were bright,
She said, “Darling, we’ve got time”
I scratched my head as I lay in bed
I said, “We’re working out every dime”

BRIDGE

The Good Lord knows, we’re drawing close to winter
We’ll be gone, taking nothing out of here
We’d better make the gold before it’s over
And head right home to those we hold so dear

VERSE 4

Thursday morn at dawn, at the early hours of sunrise,
With the radio on, we were making our final ride
The loot glittered so bright, in front of our Boss’s eyes
Then he gave us the roll and we were heading back with a smile

Then he gave us the roll and we were heading back with a smile, yeah...
Then he gave us the roll and we were heading back with a smile

Hey!

[END GUITAR SOLO]

Cool!  big_smile

Do you record all of the instruments yourself?

Of course! All instruments are played by me, thus this is why it's part of my solo venture, and not part of the Frozen Coco catalogue.  smile

I like it, but I think it could be toned down quite a bit.

Do give me feedback once you listen; comment on my SoundCloud track or here, I'd love to hear feedback.

Do you play each instrument through the whole song, or do a loop?

Nah, why should I use a loop? That would just be a cheap shortcut. Everything in there is recorded in one whole take except the lead guitar consists of a mash-up of several different takes.

I really like the melody and it's very well mixed. The only thing negative thing I have to say is that the recording quality of the vocals isn't great. But still, the track is an 8/10 for me.

Thanks and cheers for the comment. I suppose the vocals become slightly distorted when you listen to it on full blast; I usually tend to keep it at a lower level.

Ah.
How do you write the songs?
Do you use a program to do it, or do you play around on a guitar and write down the tab?

I never write a song by sitting in front of a program; the best of ideas just don't come that way. The tunes usually pop into my head, and when it does, I sit down at either the piano or with a guitar and figure out the melody. Sometimes it may be while I'm on vacation with my acoustic, at home or even during exams (playing by ear has its perks that way lol, trust me it's happened). As the idea then develops, I construct the other instrument parts.

Only once I sat down and thought, "all right; let's compose a song using a notation software entirely". That song turned out beautifully and will be the album closer to my solo double album (yes, double), releasing soon.

Song writing has become an infectious habit of mine really. I have 100+ whole songs, song parts or riff ideas ideas waiting to be recorded sometime. I can't say I dislike this habit at all.

Hmm depends on the set-up I guess. And orchestration is something to look out for in this album too.

Sometimes I can't develop on a riff.
I'm experimenting with some only instrumental music (because I canNOT sing, one of my bands is strictly noteflight, and the other is experimental and I have no singer), but it doesn't sound good with metal, nor can I find a good guitar melody.

I suppose that's where overall chord knowledge and writing experience really helps. I've been doing this for a long while now, so I'm very comfortable.

As for MIDI bands, dunno if you can really call it a band if it isn't a performed by a group for real. Sounds more like a collab on a score to me; besides, there's loads of fun in the recording process and in hearing the final result.

Re: Frozen Coco's Diyath Yavin: New single - "Gold Ringers"

When I woke up this morning and went to YouTube I saw this in my sub box I was really looking forward to hearing what you put out this time.  big_smile

This is probably one of my favorite compositions from you. The track reminds me of a Byrds song (especially "Mr. Tambourine Man") and the narrative lyrics have a somewhat Springsteen-esque vibe. A bit of Traveling Wilburys in there, too.

I'm also excited to see that your solo debut is gonna be a double album, and seeing the wide range of styles it so far seems to represent, this could be a very interesting record.

I can't wait to hear it, and meanwhile, I'm gonna share this song with my buddies.  big_smile

Thanks a lot, buddy! Glad you liked it and think it's my best composition.  big_smile

I can't wait for my solo album (which should be released sometime during my two month summer vacation). It will indeed comprise of various genres which will be all the more exciting!

Please do share it with your friends in the meantime.  smile
