it's going to turn commenting into a contest to see who can get the most thumbs up. ive used youtube for years and i see this a lot. its easier to just express support for a comment through a reply.

A Scratcher also might feel bad if s/he sees other peoples' comments getting liked but not his/hers.

But you can only reply once, the comments can be replied only to a depth of 3 layers, unless you would like to reply to the first comment again.
