Online version of Scratch

I'm sure there's a thread for this but I can't find it.

We've used the SCRATCH at our school for a while now and it's been fantastic - replacing boring control software with something all the students enjoy on some level.

I've had a look and haven't found an online version of the SCRATCH - does anyone know if this might happen? Maybe when it might happen?

Failing that, can anyone recommend an online games design website that involves similar sequencing, programming techniques that the SCRATCH offers.

The reason I'm asking is we are offering ASUS laptops to our students, they come with a version of Linux that the SCRATCH is not compatible with, plus they don't really have the space.

Please help me clever bods!

Thank you.

Okay first off, the Gimp is compatible with all versions of Linux. It's open source.
