Made any card games?

Have you ever made up a card game using a traditional 52 card deck? If so, share it here! I'll put a link to each card game up here, and if I get the chance, I'll try them!

Format:

Name of Game Here
Created by UserName

Object
insert here. try to be very concise and to the point here!

What You Need
52 card deck
Insert whatever else here. try to be very concise and to the point here!

Set Up
Try to be very concise, yet descriptive enough here. Remember, Write as if I can picture you dealing out the cards... Well, not that descriptive.  tongue

Keep In Mind
Write in other things you should know before the game starts, like the ranks of the cards, etc.

Steps
insert steps here. be VERY descriptive as to what is happening. It's essential to people understand what's going on without getting lost.

Variations
This is if you have modifications players can add later to keep it interesting. If you have none, just delete this.

Re: Made any card games?

Well, not with a 52 card deck, but my friend and I somehow invented a hybrid Zark City / Aquarius game once. I forgot how to play though D:

There's also this wonderful card game called Dvorak where you just need a pile of index cards and a couple pens.

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

Re: Made any card games?

Blind Trade
Created by ROSMan

Object
This game is constantly ongoing, so you can really come up with any objective you want. The best place to be is the Dictator social status.

What You Need
52 card deck
3-10 players. 5-7 players is recommended.

Set Up
At the start, deal three cards to each player. That is the player's hand. They can look at the cards.

Keep In Mind
The rank of the cards goes like this: A is worth 11, Joker is worth 12, the face cards are worth 10, and all the #s are worth their normal amounts.

Steps
>A TRICK
1. The person who dealt the cards out will announce 'begin'. The trick has started.

2. During a trick, your aim is to get 1st place. This is achieved by getting the highest # value of your 3 cards added up. Do this by trading.

3.To trade, ask someone if they'd like to trade. If they answer yes, you each put a card FACE DOWN and swap them. This is why it's called Blind Trade.

4.You may also want to trade so you can slap. When you slap, you slap your 3 cards face up and yell "SLAP!!!". You instantly rocket to first place for the round! You can only slap if you have 3 of the same suit in your hand. If someone has already slapped, you'll go to 2nd place, and so on.

5. When you're finished trading, show it by gently placing your cards face down. When everyone is finished trading, show your cards to everyone, and the highest value receives the highest slot available.

6. If there is a tie, each player simply takes a card from the deck, higher card wins.

>AFTER A TRICK
1.Social Statuses are now determined. Here is how they are placed:
>First place is Dictator
>Second place is a Champion
>Last place is a Beggar
>Everyone else is a Civilian

The beggar will deal out the cards for the next trick. THE NEXT TRICK HAS NOT YET BEGUN.

Each social status has their own ability:

>Dictator
-Announces a new slapping sound, like instead of saying "SLAP!" you'd say "I'm a little teapot!" If you don't say the slapping sound correctly, then your slap doesn't count and you are forbidden from slapping for the trick. If everyone votes against the slap sound, like if it's a swear word, or it's 2 minutes long, not including the dictator, then the slap is banned.
-For the trick, a Dictator also gets his lowest card doubled in value.

>Champion
-Before the trick starts, you may trade in your lowest value card for a random one from the deck, if you choose.

>Civilian
-Sorry, you get no privileges. Rank up so you do!

>Beggar
-You have a disadvantage: you cannot slap.

Now, a new trick starts with the Dictator saying begin. Repeat.

Variations
Rules Mode
The Dictator can make new rules, for example, Beggars can slap, diamond suits' values are tripled, etc, as long as 2/3 of voters agree. Everyone votes except the beggar.

When a new Dictator arises, he can choose to abolish any rules any previous dictators have made or keep them without any consent whatsoever to voters.

I made this game because all the card games I could find were games that were either long, took a long time to set up, or you couldn't play it while walking, with no table, etc. You can play this game while walking and I keep an ongoing game with my friends as we walk from class to class in school, and after lunch.

Re: Made any card games?

The Joke's On You

Description
An average game of snap but with a difference, if you get the joker (needs to be in pack) then you win. Simple as that.

You Need:
Any card pack with at least one joker.

Method
Each player takes half of the cards (or seperate equally between players) and they lie their cards one by one on the floor.
If two or more cards match then the player shouts 'Snap!' and they take the cards on the floor from the losing opponents (but none from personal stash).
If a player gets the Joker, they shout 'Joker!' and takes everyone's cards from the floor (likewise, not personal stash).
The player with the Joker then puts the joker card away and the game continues. The game is easier when there are more Jokers in the pack (usually two).
Bonus prize for the person with the instructions, as they get to take up to five cards from everyone's personal stash.
The winner is the person with all the cards.

Also, the "social status" gets confusing and changes the focus of the game from trading around to get a score to wanting to be a dictator or whatever. If you REALLY want to keep that part of the game, just say "First place gets blah" and "Last place can't blah" instead of having a rank for everyone. Even then your abilities seem like they may unbalance the game. Keeping score and playing to a certain score may be your best option.

Re: Made any card games?

LONG UNO
Created by SoupOfTomato and various people

Object
To run out of all your cards, just like normal UNO!

What You Need
Normal UNO deck! (If you have a deck that is similar, but slightly changed, like an Anniversary deck, remove special cards as they can shorten gameplay sometimes)

Set Up
Proceed as if it is normal UNO.
Shuffle the entire UNO deck thoroughly. Deal 7 cards for each player. Put the leftovers in the middle of the table and flip over the first card.

Keep In Mind
This is a collection of different "house rules" I've learned from various places, designed to make there be more card-drawings and a longer hand time on average.
The changed rules are:
You may block a Draw+2 or Draw+4 Wildcard card by playing another Draw+(x) on top. This can continue until someone is unable to block.
You must draw a new card until you are able to play one of them, if you have no legal card in your hand on your turn.
If someone plays a 7, all players must be silent until a new number is in play. Draw 2 if you talk (this Draw+2 can be countered in the same ways as the normal card)
A reverse card of the same color as an effect card (e.g. a yellow reverse on a yellow Draw+2) can change the order of play AND send the Draw+2 to the new person.
A Draw+4 Wildcard may be played even if you are able to play a different card.

Steps
Proceed to play a game of UNO, with the same scoring as normal, with these rules.

Variations
Pretty much any added rule can be removed, and I would be interested in hearing and house rules YOU have that may be added to this.

Sounds like a loose guide for "How to Make Your Own Card Game" more than a specific game in itself. It's interesting how every game is influenced by the personality of the players creating cards, and is almost entirely different everytime.

Re: Made any card games?

I once tried to make this Fakemon game with my friends in second grade, but we eventually gave up and just stuck to making random board games on sheets of paper during recess and after we were finished with tests. I think we were the only kids in the school who did this and used out practically half our teacher's supply of paper before she told us we had to bring our own paper.

Ahhhh good times.

you NEED 52 cards. I'm not saying you have to have Jokers, they're just... if you have them.

I actually at first had just the trick part as the whole game and first place got however many points there are players, then 2nd place would get that many points -1, etc. but it proved to get old fast. the social status part of it makes it more strategic and fun (especially the whole choosing a new slap sound bit). I added the names for each social status just because it's more fun that way. If you think it derives from the fun though, you can take it out while playing...

EDIT: keeping score is optional, although you can't pick up where you left off as easily.

I see a card game as needing some sort of "definite end".
I would quit playing if I saw no way to truly win, and therefore, prove my superiority.

This is why a point system (based on how much you score that trick) allows the best possible game. Keep you silly changing the slap, but make that the ONLY thing and don't add in trivial class names. (changing the slap sound does not effectively change how hard or easy the game is)

In my book, all a game needs is fun. If you played a game that was the best ever fun wise hands-down, but had no real end, you're saying you wouldn't play it?

And like I said, you can play with points, be my guest. That's simply not how I play.
