Strings in Scratch

Adding support for strings in Scratch would greatly increase the scope of what you could do with Scratch. Under the variables tab, there could be an option to make a string variable. Then you could write scripts that respond to people by name and do just about anything you could do on Flash. New blocks could include

Change (        ) to a string
Change (        ) to a number

Say (        ) for (  ) seconds

Set string (       ) to (Hello, ) + (string3)

I wrote a program in Scratch called Alph that tries to make text in Scratch feasible, but it involves a different costume for every letter. It would be great if you could tell a sprite what to say, write commands within an applet, etc, and to see the sliders and monitors for variables to expand to checkboxes, radio buttons, text fields, combo boxes, etc, like components in Flash.
