Very Early Scratch Projects

Hi, I'm just curious. Why are there old Scratch (1.1) projects (made by regular Scratchers) uploaded before Scratch went public (May 15th 2007)? Was Scratch 1.1 available before the website officially opened?

Re: Very Early Scratch Projects

I think the sample projects that come with Scratch are pretty old. And Scratch 1.0 was avaliable to the people who develop scratch before the website.

you could download scratch before the web site came out

Make it in Scratch! because it's cooler when it's made in scratch

That would make sense, but a Scratch Timeline on the Wiki said Scratch 1.0 was out May 15th, and Scratch 1.1 projects were uploaded as early as the 11th.

Sample projects are actually made by regular Scratchers, and are selected by the Scratch team to be included in Scratch.

Re: Very Early Scratch Projects

The wayback machine is an interesting place to look at Scratch from the past.
The scratch.mit.edu site was online in March ’07. http://web.archive.org/web/20070315060542/http://scratch.mit.edu/

I've updated my text adventure game.

I observed that.  tongue  But why is it said that the website went public on May 15th? I think I'll need an answer from an administrator because not many people joined Scratch that early.

Some research papers that the Scratch team members have published can be found under About/Research.   This one mentions the start of the web site:http://info.scratch.mit.edu/sites/infos … esnick.pdf

The Scratch Online Community was beta released on March 4, 2007. The community started with only the 20 participants who were involved in a Scratch workshop. On the morning of May 14, 2007, the website was officially launched.

That pretty much answers my question. Thanks.  big_smile
