Yeah, I agree with Northmeister, project notes shouldn't be forced in. The based off link is fine.

^this. Also, couldn't people just edit the auto-credit out? What about using your computer to take screenshots of sprites or using your microphone to record sounds? No matter what you do, people can still find a way around whatever it is.There is one way that I can think of that's even easier than that. Here's a hint: It involves a blank project and a certain option in the File menu. Therefore, I think my idea would be better: allow the users to flag remixes without credit.

Oh, the import project button?
+1 on being able to see who downloaded something.
You got it.

ST already said a ''based on...'' already counts as credit.
It's still disrespectful, and if you would be kind enough to read up a post from yours, inside the quotes there I outlined a flaw in the "based on" system and method to counteract it. Also, who sees that thing? I mean, honestly! I could view a project five times and still probably miss it.

I always see the original version. My point is proven. It'll be impossible to make it perfect.

Well, it's not like it's glaringly obvious when you look at a project.

Yes, so I proposed Plan C:

Any flaws in this, please tell me.

most of the people don't give credit and we get tons more reports for mods to deal with?
most people who do just copy projects don't bother to remove the based on ___

Not everyone does though

People can always remove the notes, though. No support.

Most people rely on the auto credit.

What if you downloaded a bunch of stuff from scratch resources? You project notes will be filled with "I give credit to x I give credit to y I give credit to z..."
Also, if someone took an image from the internet and made it into a sprite. should credit really belong to them, or those who first created to image?

As I said, the original creator would have the decision of whether it will give credit in the notes or not.

the original creator? so were going to go have to ask random graphic designers online if they were the original creators of the sprites?

less people read the notes than the based on thing
anyway, theres no way to stop people so why bother changing it
its not like people are copying commercial games and selling them for profit

1. Actually, more people read the notes.
2. Well, his idea makes it more noticeable, and my idea is very nearly foolproof.
3. It's a matter of respect.

I'm not sure what we're discussing here, but I'll just say a few things:
the Scratch team supports the fact that credit should be given
it's not fair for people who work hard and others copy and pretend they did all the work
it's good practice for the future where you could get in trouble with laws
I don't know whose side this is helping, but its important to remember these

Not exactly. Everyone relies on the based on X for credit.

Well, then I don't approve of anyone who's a part of your "everyone". It doesn't matter if only one person does it, it doesn't matter if every single Scratcher save a few do it, it doesn't make it right.

Looks Legal that is a Great Idea I don't like people that copy (IDBIDCTGICEMC)

It's fine. Besides, I would be flattered if someone remix my project, cause that means they like it.

Since people never give credit, it should be an option for the creator of a project to tick a box so that if someone is to remix it will automatically say on the notes "I give credit to(Player Here)" It should not only be on remixes, but if you export sprites from other people projects. Including music and backgrounds. Please bring this into scratch 2.0, im begging!!!
(this isSilverado's idea)
Please reply if you support this idea!
I support. This is a good idea!
