We're just having a debate. No one's really that worked up. And I did not see one rebuttal to my point.
Yes, everybody has opinions. That doesn't mean that they are not misinformed (a la disliking a genre of video games that you have never played yourself, which would be like if I said electronic music was terrible and I hadn't listened to anything from the genre). It also doesn't mean that they are, as I said, sacred and can never be challenged. I'm not insulting you as a person for your opinion, nor jumping to illogical conclusions based on it. I am just debating the opinion. This isn't so harmful, and people shouldn't be so offended by something so arbitrary.I do realize that I made a foolish statement saying that I don't like something I've never tried. ...Actually, it was just sort of a poor choice of words. I really only meant that I don't like games filled to the brim with mindless violence. I also understand that no opinion will be held sacred. I have a bad habit of treating my own opinion as much better than others. And that doesn't mean that all opinions are better than mine; nay, nothing could be further from the truth. But mine isn't perfect either and I apologize for this- Wait, a debate, you say? I thought this was an argument. XD
Well, I appreciate owning you owning up to your mistakes. I have that same problem sometimes. A debate and argument are very similar terms, but argument brings up more negative connotations, so I decided to use debate. The same way "slim" and "scrawny" work; they mean similar things but one brings up more negative connotations.
You hit it right on the nose. So now that we have that cleared up...

I myself enjoy sandbox games. Why waste your money on one genre when you can theoretically have them all neatly wrapped up in one? And my least favorite would probably be FPS. I've never played one, but I don't plan on it either. It's nothing but violence, violence, blood, and violence. :c
How alike can we get?

Have you heard of an FPS called portal? You don't even shoot people! So not all FPS games are murder everything in sight.

I don't consider Portal an FPS. I tried to stay away from the blood though... Glad the blood was taken out in Portal 2. I consider that a puzzle game, anyways. A first person puzzle game.

Yeah.
I sometimes wish Portal 2 was also as isolated and dark and gritty as the first game. IMO, the second game is too story driven.

whats wrong with FPS being bloody and violent? its kind of the point.
anyway, I really like FPS, really don't like strategy and another favorite is third person stealth, eg. Assassin's Creed, Hitman ect.

I've been wondering, what really makes an RPG?

You are told, you do and you are rewarded. Usually the first and last are given by the same godly/important being.

People really hate shooters. I don't really like them that much, but it's becoming a stereotype now. I mean, a lot of them aren't really that bad. Some are horrible, but there are quite a few quality games on store shelves. Take Crysis, for example. Great plot, and really not that bad, when you think about it.
