My personal favorite memory is:

I was playing Pokémon ruby when I came across a shiny Zigzagoon very early on in the game, I even have specific memories of fighting Norman with him. Sure Zigzagoon isn't a very good pokémon, but I didn't care when I was 10. I used it throughout the story on my team, and because of this I've formed a fond liking for the 3rd generation HM slave. What really cements this memory is how I lost it. I played ruby purely so I could get Groudon, because at the time, I just used legendaries because they were powerful. When I migrated Groudon, I forgot about the shiny Linoone and for some reason I felt the dying urge to reset my game, and poof! Forgotten about. I didn't freak out too much at the time, but now that I know it is a 1/8192 chance, I hate myself. The real kicker is, if I migrated it to platinum, it would've been lost there too. This is because I interpreted my brother saying I was cheating by taking over a bunch of pokémon to Soul Silver, so in a rage I don't understand why I had, I deleted the profile after trading over a select few pokémon to prove that I wouldn't (I didn't, so I guess I proved my point? Still full of regret for my poor Giratina and Manaphy).

There is a reason why I've been using the Masuda Method to get a shiny jolly-natured Linoone.
