the scratch team should have their own section on the front page. it could be called "projects from the scratch team". this way, they won't have to use the featured row when important information is broadcast.

Well, the scratch team dosn't shoot out updates and stuff like every week, so I don't find it neccessery.
if the message is important then it requires exposure -- more people ought to know, so increased exposure isn't bad. the main issue i see is that they are piggy-backing on the featured section, which is meant to be for users of the site. if the scratch team had their own section, it would consolidate all the important information. perhaps they would even endeavor to create more projects and announcements if they had their own section; i dont think we want to see the scratch team feature one of their own projects every week.

You're obviously referring to Sparks' project earlier, and I agree, although I think there should just be a small "announcements" box, that the ST can toggle whenever there's an announcement project

Usually when it's really important they have a banner right one top of where your messeges usally are.

Well, they do have their blog, but it's not used much at all.

the banner is for extra important things that deal with every user, but in this section there could be something like a bug report, or the "gobo gets phished" thing. those are still important, just not as much. also, their blog is pretty invisible, there really aren't links to it on the main site except in some obscure corner

Yes, it is the catalyst which sparked this idea, but ive also seen it done before.

I support! I sometimes want to look for an important scratch team project and hate looking it up I also agree that they are "piggybacking" on the features page. With your idea, important projects can be found easily.

Maybe the row can only be shown when there is an announcement?

it would also be used for other projects like "gobo gets phished", basically any scratch-team related important message, notice, warning, etc. it should always be shpown because it would be a good way to find information from the scratch team.

"sparked the idea"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
but I don't think it deserves a whole row, but maybe a sidebar item like "most recent scratch news" or something like that

I don't think the ST wants every project they make to be put on the front page, but rather the projects Scratchers make.(And they would easily make #1 top loved and viewed lately all the time, even though the projects wouldn't appear, that would be strange.) plus there would probably only be a new project on it about every week or two. And that's if you count every project. (If you're only talking about announcements and projects like "Gobo gets punished" you're talking about possibly months.)

The scratch team runs the site; it is their job to supply important information to the users of the site, especially because the users of this site are young. hence the "gobo gets phished" projects. i agree, they dont want to put every project they make on the front page, but many they make are important.
Easily make top loved? Well if that was true, why did 4 moderatpors have to upload "gobo gets phished"? why do they keep featuring important projects about Scratch? it's because they won't easily make top loved; and it is necessary to relay the information.

Also, if they had their own section, chances are they would use it more frequently. the amount of projects they upload now does not correlate to the amount they would upload if they had this.

I think they should just do one of the bars at the top, like the message thing (Some of you may remember the on that they did for SOPA and PIPA, like that) if it's really important.
yes, BUT i don't think we are thinking about the same definition of "important". my idea of important is something everyone would benefit from knowing, i.e. beware of phishing, ghost stamping, ask the st questions. and these would benefit from their own section because
a) they would be consolidated in one space for easy access
b) they would be there forever, not just for a day or two, allowing MANY users to see
i am not thinking about the sopa/pipa "important", i am thinking projects that have long-term importance.

Hiya everyone!
Just a note to say yeah - we very rarely use the featured row for announcements and stuff. But since there's a lot going on these days, what with the forthcoming transition to 2.0, we decided it makes sense to use it for some things - like the open beta announcement for one. The reason is that only a small percentage of all Scratchers visit the forums, and we want to make sure that everyone gets to see and comment on important items.
But don't worry - once thing settle down after the 2.0 transition, we'll go back to using featured *very rarely*, if ever. (Actually 2.0 has a better "news / updates" system, so I think it's likely we'll just use that.)

I meant If we did have a ST's projects row.
