@veggieman001 & shpeters: Same here. I'm just saying that you say w3schools is bad, when you yourselves use it.
I first learned javascript, HTML, and CSS from w3schools, and the differences between the classes in codeacademy and w3schools in javascript are very slim.
The only ones I can see so far is declaring functions as a variable (versus putting 'function myFunction()' according to w3schools).I don't use it.
Veggiman does.
Question: What do you use?

Mainly I just use the official site for whatever I want to learn (processing, supercollider, din, etc) and use my epic memory powers* to retain the knowledges.
*I don't have any
Also I try to use obscore programming langs to try a new way of thinking. It's kind of fun and rewarding. Plus some langs are made for a specific purpose ( sc is for music, processing and löve are for graphics, etc) and it's fun to compare.
{SinOsc.ar(440,0,0.5)}.play; is a rather fun supercollider program I just learned yesterday

When'd I say it was bad?
And I prefer doing functions the w3schools way anyway (in most cases), because it's like other programming languages.

Question: What do you use?I use Codecademy.
What happens if you want to, let's say, learn how to turn a string into a substring (pretend you don't know how).
How would you know which lesson to learn, and which section of the lesson to look in?
Wouldn't it be much easier to just be able to search "substring" and get several answers, while only having an about 1/150 chance that it's not proper but still gets the job done?

I can normally find what I want in Codecadamy, so that's not a problem. Yes, it's nice to have information like that, but code mostly only stays in your memory if you type it in when it requires 100% accuracy. In computer class we used w3schools a few times, and it required about 50% accuracy, which is not professional. Go with accuracy, not speed.

I leran programming using random tutorials on the internet.

Codecademy, but they have a small selection so my backup is a book.
Offline
w3schools and googling for things like "how to make iframes in HTML5"

Leraning is hard sometimes. Try chewing ugm, it helps the trian of thoguht.
Food for your brian.
Sometimes muisc helps too.
*topic exhausted no more of this please!*
Sometimes it's a good idea to pick languages based off of built in documentation. More documentation = less probability of head exploding. Easy as pi.

Really, guys, during the holidays you continue making fuss over a typo?
Enough with focusing too much on the "leran" typo. We all know it's more important to stay on topic.

Thank you, cheddargirl.
I learned it from my Uncle, and some on my own from various websites.

Scratch! Well besides that, I earn from like northmeister said, trial and error. I'm learning HTML and Java currently. Not from school, though because we learn about stupid stuff like safe passwords, how to use microsoft word, and stupid stuff like that. I'm in 7th grade and we are just learning Scratch this year(just learning about costumes and sprite movement -_-)! I've been on Scratch for 4 years now...
I know how that feels. I'm learning how to use EXCEL, which everyone already knows how to.. it's the 3rd time we've done it... And we've only TOUCHED Scratch. The only thing we learned to do in Scratch was to say "Hello, world!". I was already making Line graph and type functions because the school had Scratch 1.3 - That's how BORING my IT lessons are..
Well, you should be happy you at least get to use the computers in school. I don't have any time to fit it in my schedule (and probably never will) and even when I did years before, we never even used scratch.
I suggest you open two windows of scratch, one with an actual project and another with the projects saying hi. Put one behind the other when the teacher looks

@topic-I use khan academy sometimes but I don't find it too good for learn more advanced things, only to get accustomed to what computer programming is about, which I learned from scratch already (mostly)
I want to use codecademy more often, but I don't have the time, and when I do, I don't quite seem to remember things easily. But that's for JS, so perhaps it'll be better when I learn python or ruby
I use some other things that I forgot about; ill need my computer to find them.

Khan Academy for processing.js. For those who say it's not advanced, I say you haven't gone deep enough. Have you seen some of the games?

A school near here is having a computer class, they basically teach "don't get lost here, a screen is made out of pixels... I'm confused" according to my mom, so I'm interested in applying for internship and teaching them a little lesson... xD

I use whatever Google throws at me.
If I may revive that old discussion about declaring functions: (EDIT: What I said wasn't right, here's the actual differences)
