I've never really gotten a virus on my computer but some Indian guy on the phone wanted to "help me fix my computer problems on my Windows computer" when I wasn't even on a Windows computer, I was on a Mac, and they don't get viruses, so the joke's on him. I told him I had a Mac and that my windows were clean and they didn't need to be washed and then he ragequit. xD

My dad once received a phone call like that from someone that said his name was peter. my dad acted like someone that had windows and didn't know a thing about computers, and recorded the whole thing. But the indian guy quit when my dad asked for his last name.

I had this virus where this fake security program kept popping up and saying I had over 100 viruses and told me to upgrade to the full version for an easy payment of $1000.

Yeah, I got another computer because my other one crashed and I lost everything; luckily there's not a lot of important stuff a 7-year-old can put on a PC. Why did it crash? A mystery to this day. I was playing LotR game for Windows, and then it went from normal, to blue, to black. It never woke up again.

I had to fix a virus like that.
Security Shield, I think it was.

My friend had a fake antivirus like that to, called platinum security live or something. I deleted it for him, but it installed a few worse ones, like seekportals.com

Something like that happened to me.
I was playing a game, and POP. The computer shut off and never turned on again.
Although, I think that was more of a battery malfunction.

(well, I guess rm -rf / would be a bit of a problem...)I know an even better AV!
A computer that's not connected to the Internet.
Android is the best AV around.

i've had this computer for a few years, updating it and stuff. I've never gotten a virus. my anti-virus puts things it suspects are virus into "quarantine" which makes it impossible to run, but if you feel it isn't a virus you can just dequarintine(word?) it.

I remember on day i was making a project (diffrent account) and from no apparent reason — was totally out of the blue — my computer crashed and was making this really really REALLY loud high pitched squeal. Why did it happen? I have no idea. I finally resorted to flipping the main power cord to all the electronics and viola its working fine.

I did. I wish I'd said more, and had more fun with it. They don't seem to call back after I told them I have a Mac, like Cylon said

Weirdest (and only one with an apparent effect) I've gotten was this one that changed my desktop image and tried to force me to use some fake antiviruses. That was a long time ago, I don't really get them anymore. My brothers keep installing stupid adware-ridden toolbars, though. >.>

99% of those are viruses, you know. >.>

Spyder, those first two weren't viruses at all, the first was just something else it installed, and the second merely a glitch.

I've not got this bad one called Ilivid but it pretends to be a download manager.

I have a virus from Amazon which highlights text from the internet and when you click these 'fake' links, they send you to a Amazon search for the highlighted text. -_-

It's not a virus, then. It's not even malware. It's called an (unwanted) browser extension. Perhaps you accidentally installed it? Companies like to trick you like that.
I don't remember any malware on the computer I use. Another one, though, always gets bad updates from Windows that screw with the computer. It reminds me of this.

On a Windows Vista home computer:
Once I got something called a "backdoor virus" which duplicated itself and began popping up all these "(name of virus program; I don't remember) has stopped responding..." windows, and when I tried to click one, it would open another one. I finally got rid of it, with the help of Safe Mode and Malwarebytes.
Also apparently we had a hacker once according to my parents. I don't know much about that though.
