Recommend Music to Listen To

This is sort of a remake of an old topic by veggie back in the Misc. days. How the thread worked was you had to reccomend music to him, and if he never heard of the song before and actually likes it, then the person gets a gold star. c:

This thread practically works in the same manner, the only difference being, well, you have to reccomend me music.  tongue

I'll put a little roster of Scratchers who've gotten gold stars.

Ah, there it is.

Three days grace is really good. Linkin Park is also pretty good. They are probably 2 of my favorite bands.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.

Foo Fighters- Walk.
The singer of this band, Dave Grohl, was the drummer for Nirvana.

skip to 1:01 for the start of the song...

You may also find the music video quite funny.  smile

!!!
Second every single one of those proposals
For Sigur Rós, a great one to start with is Ágætis byrjun and for GY!BE, the CD version of F# A# ∞. The only múm album I have is Summer Make Good and it's pretty good but I haven't heard others for comparison. Boards of Canada I haven't listened to as much, but Music Has the Right to Children is the best of what I've heard.

Re: Recommend Music to Listen To

Sorry guys, my earphones died so I couldn't listen to any music for a couple of days. But I recently got a brand new pair, so I'm ready to go. Let's see what we've got here...

Heard it before - great song.  big_smile  I've heard the entire Cloud Nine album before - really good stuff. George's pop/rock really transitioned well into the 80's.

Hmm, this is interesting. Kind of hip-hoppy, but also little elements of dubstep. It's definitely a cool and very cohesive mix - not exactly my style, but I'll come back to it.

Let's listen to one song from each. For Three Days Grace, I found "Last to Know". It's not that bad really. I know they're a post-grunge band, so this piano-led ballad maybe isn't exactly a good representative of their sound, but it's still pretty good. The melody is very nice - I especially like when the guitars come in.

Now for Linkin Park, I found "In the End". It's pretty good. It's nu-metal, if I'm correct, and I think it's a pretty interesting genre, mixing grungy hard rock with hip-hop elements. It's good - the chorus reminds me of Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Hmm...GOLD STAR.

Great song. I have the album, it's one of my favorite records actually. I like how Roger's grittier voice and style contrasts with Freddie's more pomposity and Brian's laid-back, tounge-in-cheek point of view. Interesting how the song is sort of a comic portrayal of a materialistic. Of course, I've already heard the song quite a few times, so I can't give it a gold metal, but it's still a song I really like.

Concept albums, eh? Awesome, some of my favorite records are concept albums. This song is pretty nice - definitely reminds of a more modern version of "The Wall". The buildup into the chorus is neat - the ringing, echoing guitars remind me of U2, and the offbeat vocals really do remind me of Roger's from "The Wall". I should check out this album. GOLD STAR.

All right, quite a few bands here. Once again, I'll listen to one song from each. For My Chemical Romance, I found "Teenagers". I heard of the band before, but never really listened to them. Man, was I missing out. This song is great. It has a sort of edge to it that reminds me of Aerosmith or the Stones. Guitar solo is awesome, too. GOLD STAR.

For Avenged Sevenfold, I found the song "Afterlife". I used to hear their song "Beast and the Harlot" all the time, because it was on Rock Band 3. It wasn't bad - it was dark, thrashy, sort of like Dio. I never heard this song, though. Well, for starters, I really enjoyed the orchestral intro, and how it's a bit like a shadowy foreshadowing to the main, guitar bit. Hmm...I think I might like this song a bit more, actually. The melody for the chorus is nice, it's more uplifting tone contradicting with the edgier verses. The orchestral breakdown in the middle is a nice addition, too. Not sure if gold star material, but I'll come back to it.

All right now for Fearless Vampire Killers. I found the song "Concede, Repent, Destroy". It's a pretty cool song. I like how it mixes metally guitars with more melodic melodies. Again, maybe not gold star material, but I might check out more stuff rom them.

All right, should check out the other songs a bit later.  big_smile

Re: Recommend Music to Listen To

I've got three more bands -- BADBADNOTGOOD, Galactic, and the Stanton Moore Trio. Check them all out - BBNG's music is mostly jazzy rap covers, Galactic is classic funk, and Stanton Moore Trio is not-so-classic funk.
