I just got the book Super Scratch for my kids and we are really getting excited about getting started. We are running Fedora 16 and the sound files don't seem to work.
Until we can find a solution we are running under XP in virtual machine.
Any suggestions for the sound?

I installed scratch-1.4.0.1-1.i386.rpm

Should I try to install a version for a different distro or compile it locally?

Hmm, not sure what might the problem with the sound. If you don;t mind, I'll move this over to the Bugs and Glitches forum, maybe we'll be able to get more help there on solving this issue.

Thanks. The sound didn't work in previous version of Fedora either. Also in my orginal post I put Fedora 17, but I meant 16...

Hiya! Welcome to Scratch, by the way.
The rpm linked from our download page is pretty old - I'd recommend trying to build one from the code available here:
https://github.com/Oneiroi/scratch/
Hopefully that project will be able to get a Scratch .rpm into the Fedora repositories soon!
Scratch On!
