We've upgraded to 1.4.6, and finally conquered those nasty broken plugins!  We've also build a new spawn, so have fun with that...

If your having grief troubles you could always get more mods, do rollbacks, or could get big brother. Also if you have factions you should claim territory to prevent people from being able to destroy and place blocks

The griefing has more or less subsided, and I've added CoreProtect to prevent future griefing.  We have factions and have done as you suggest to the spawn, however, the trouble is the this griefer had some control over the server (kicked my IRL friend who is op, though the server said he got end-of-streamed, and the log is empty for when the griefing happened except for this.)

As for trying it out, cool!

I know how he did that. He used a hacked client called "Force-op". It makes you an op on any server. I've never used it myself, but I have friends who have. It would be interesting to see how it works, to try to figure out a way to combat it.

I've never actually checked the ops list... good idea.
Here's how it works (the session stealer one at least):
1) You join the fake server
2) You get disconnected for a fake reason
3) A bot steals your session
4) The bot joins the server as you
5) The bot executes a preset list of commands
6) The bot leaves
7) The griefer wrecks havoc.
