I am typing this on my Mac laptop from 2008 that I got a few months ago (my old one was from 2006, this one was only $200, and in pretty awesome condition), while looking at my ipod touch 3rd generation, which is still good and running (considering I got it 2-3 years ago).

But what does bug me is that my iPod is 2-3 years old, and it already can't handle any of the new software updates. I'm running iOS 5.1.1 and according to my iPod, that's up to date.
Apple is really good at making great products, but keeping them with the latest software and upgrades, Apple sucks at. They are better at keeping it with the MacBooks, since this computer is older than my iPod and has the latest updates, especially since this pop up keeps coming up asking me to update.

I'ven't messed with any other smartphones, so I can't judge the iPod/iPhone that much.

It's true that iOS upgrades only extend to three or four previous generations, but it's not a huge deal; that's like three or four years of using until you have to stick with one upgrade less than the current one.

It is a big deal. After purchasing my iPod three years ago, it's already outdated, by FAR. Not only is it outdated from the 2 new versions, which I can deal with, it now is considered so old to apple, that it won't try to get it to keep up with the new software. Which means that now, I have to check every app I get to make sure it works on my iPod, I  have to hope that iOS 5.1.1 has no glitches so that I can still use it for as long as my iPod works.
Apple does it to get money, they think that 3 years old is too old. Which I completely hate.

Well if you count iPods, I haven't cracked my iPod, not even scratched it, and I have had it for 3 years, same for my brother. My dad has had is iPhone 4 for a little over a year now (I think), and my little brother (who's 6) constantly plays with it (and sometimes drops it), and its screen hasn't cracked. All of my friend's iPhones aren't cracked. That's about 15 people right there.

Re: Apple Official Topic

It's not just you and your friends, practically everyone I see has a cracked screen on their iPod, iPhone, or other Android phone. So it's not just you, and it's not just Apple.  tongue  The reason you may find so many broken screens on iPods is that they're so dang popular.

@ADK: You mean besides the screen size?
The iPad has a slightly better battery.
The iTouch has a camera flash, although they have the same 5 Megapixel iSight camera.
The iPod Touch has the dual-core A5 processor, while the iPad 4th generation has the new dual-core A6x (Apple's web site says that it has quad-core graphics)
The iPad has mobile broadband upgrade possibilities, the iPod does not (that's what an iPhone is for)

Then the most important point: the iPod fits in a pocket, the iPad will go in a backpack. They aren't the same. Those in the market for a tablet shouldn't really consider the iPod Touch, while those looking for a music player or something to use as a camera shouldn't really consider the iPad. Oh, and stay away from the iPad Mini. It's just a compromise between the screen sizes, not Apple's best work. If you want a tablet, get the full iPad. If you want an MP3 player, get the iPod Touch. The iPad Mini is just a shrunken-down iPad 2 (still good, but it's old news) that still won't fit in a pocket, so the gain in portability is essentially null.

I think simply saying to stay away from the iPad Mini isn't always good advice; it does have it's purpose. the iPad Mini isn't and wasn't supposed to be revolutionary or much different than the iPad; it's to have a slightly more portable experience and to provide people with a much cheaper price; it'll be on a lot of people's Christmas lists.

Hmm.. It has its place as being cheaper than a full iPad. The portability really isn't far superior to that of a full iPad. The mini would need to go in a backpack like a full iPad, the itouch can go in a pocket. Really there is no difference between carrying a full of mini iPad.

Somebody already said the excact same thing, pretty much. Do you like to copy other jokes?

Plus I stated in the main post that this was an Apple Company topic, not some fruit topic. I suppose you didn't read that either?

Yeah, in "American Speak" we would call it a vacation, but there are many ways in which the US does things weird compared to other nations, such as Britain. (for example, Fahrenheit, not having the "u" in words like "colour," and for some reason not wanting national healthcare  tongue ) (sorry, I just had to put the last one in talking about differences between Britain and the US)
