I'm in seventh grade and am (unfortunately) in Pre-Algebra, but that's because most seventh graders in my school are in Pre-Algebra because most eighth graders are in Algebra 1, because they were in Pre-Algebra in seventh grade, and...well, you know, it's sort of a paradox.

Why's that a problem? Here it's normal to go into Algebra I or Geometry as freshman.
Then, from Geometry, one would go Algebra II/Trigonometry (a single class), Pre-Calculus, and then Calculus. I have a friend who did Pre-Calc as a freshman, though, so he'll do like statistics or applied mathematics next year, I believe, because he's doing AP Calc or something this year.

Re: Understanding Algebra

Man, I love Algebra so much... Is it normal to go into Algebra 1 at 6th grade?

Depends on where you are and your level of math.

I actually don't know why its a problem, really, because my parents seem to make a big deal out of it.

Did anyone else do Algebra 1 in 8th grade?

I did. It was really really easy that I pretested out of every chapter. Currently I'm in pre-calc/trig.

Wow, what grade are you in? Surely not ninth...
I'm in ninth grade working on Geometry.

oh! no, I'm in ninth grade. my education in math is quite confusing.

Re: Understanding Algebra

I live near one of the best high schools in the United States, so I'll hopefully be able to take calculus in 9th grade or something  tongue . I wish there were more above grade level classes
