You do realize weeds cannot feel any pain at all right
Like, you are literally having no effect on anything or being nicer than anyone for not killing them

(plants) can feel pain and talk to each other but thats a different arguement

maybe plants can feel pain, but they dont realize it because they have no brains

they can sense pain and send chemical signals but they lack a nervous system and the nociceptors that go with one (which is what makes you feel pain).

also, the daily mail is known for being untrustworthy; it's more of a tabloid than a newspaper

Re: bird-feeding discrimination

This is really weird.

Discrimination? I don't think pigeons really care if humans are feeding them or not. They probably can fend for themselves. I mean, they are a feral animal.  tongue

I agree. I don't think the pigeons are thinking "I HATE THOSE HUMANS BECAUSE THEY FEED THEIR PET DOGS BUT NOT ME!"

They have no sense of entitlement, they're pigeons.
They can survive on their own!
I'm just wondering, 9star (et al)-

btw feeding them makes them more reliant on humans and makes them less able to survive on their own yay

they don't in a way, like they wouldn't atack you for not feeding them but its a nice gesture to fed them and feeding them DOES actually help them. the pigeons i feed know me and they appreciate being fed.

feeding them a little treat every now and then is okay. i don't agree with killing rats with traps/poison, you should get a cat or dog instead. where i used to live rats would come down from the woods. becuase they were from the woods they were clean so the only problem with them was the sheer numbers.

You see, cats and dogs do a rather messy job of killing our fine (nice), fine (small), and furry little friends. Traps and poison do it quickly without the needless gore.

Actually, the common pigeon is a wild animal. You are domesticating it... You are teaching it to expect food from human beings. Its survival chance has been greatly dented.

cats naturally hunt them. the ancestors of our cats [the wildcats] have been killing them for thousands of years so really it's fine where poison/traps haven't been around for that long.                                                                                      and dogs generally just scare them away.

Yes, but killing them by traps is more humane, since it's a much quicker and more sudden death than being chased, attacked and killed by a cat.

No, they are NOT smart.  They survive on instinct, and you are killing their survival instincts.
