They may not get removed if the violence is only mild though, though it may get marked as not for everyone (often called NFE) which means it'll never be able to reach the front page

If you find any inappropriate projects (please keep in mind that these are not called programs) flag them. If the ST deems the project unsuitable it will be removed and when it is clicked on, a message will appear saying so. If, however, it is not overly inappropriate, for example a project containing minimal to moderate levels of violence and gore, it will simply be marked as "not for everyone", meaning it can't be front-paged.

Well, we don't know. If the original owner feels the topic is resolved, then he/she could request it to be closed. Alternatively, it can be left open since you never know if someone has something useful to contribute to the thread. Even if a topic looks like it's resolved, it doesn't necessarily mean it should be closed.
