Definitely!

Yes, and they are checked quickly.

Yep! On each person's userpage you can click "add to friends" underneath their icon

And the report system on the forums.

Edit: this is probably one of the safest online communities I've every found, and by far the friendliest (essentially: mean users are rare, kind users are plentiful).  The moderators are friendly but also firmly believe that this site should be friendly to just about any/every age group.  In the interest of honesty, there was a severe case on the forums of a single user posting inappropriate content, but changes to the forums and the addition of three(?) moderators (for faster response time) have, in my opinion, made the scratch forums the safest forum site I've ever been on.  The mainsite, if it were possible, is even safer.

Re: Scratch Question

I do not remember this severe case of inappropriate content so it was not recently. I have never seen anything unsuitable for kids on this website. Any project that is not suitable is marked NFE (Not For Everyone). As I said before, I have never seen one of these. However, we do get the odd commercial spambot which writes something like this:

commercial spambot wrote:

T-Shirt £3 Suit £28 Jeans £5 at clothingforyou.com

And so on.

Re: Scratch Question

Scratch is totally kid-safe. The users are very friendly and there is a way to flag innapropriate content. There's basically no way you will come across anything bad on this site.
