Programming help

Hi everyone. My name is Freya. I already posted something similar in the 'New Scratchers' section, but have not had any replies yet, so I thought it would be better to ask here. I started using Scratch when I was 11, but I haven't used it for a few years so I made a new account.

I'm 16 years old and I have always loved computers. My dad is very skilled with computers as well and I'm always curious about how he does things. As I've grown older I've become more and more interested in the advanced side of computing, particularly programming. I know there are quite a few people here who are not only advanced Scratchers but also have extensive knowledge of other programming languages. I would really appreciate if someone could recommend me a programming language to learn in my free time and maybe teach me a little. If I discover that I enjoy programming then I'd like to become a cryptologist when I'm older.

Thanks for reading!

~ Freya

Re: Programming help

It depends on what you want to do in the future. JavaScript would allow you to create client side applications for the browser (client-side encryption for chat would be one use). Crypto.Cat might be of some interest in that field. C/C++ is good if you want to create a fast encryption program. Python is easy to learn and you can create things real quickly in it.

But as I've said, it depends on what sort of cryptography programming you want to do (application, server-side, etc).  smile

Re: Programming help

I suggest that you start off with the very basics - a new programming language called Cloavy. More info at cloavy.boards.net

Re: Programming help

I recommend Java or Python, but if you're also still using Scratch, try out Squeak for making mods.

Re: Programming help

Hey DragonKeeper978; you can't always expect to get a response within 1 day. To prevent duplicate topics, i'm going to close this one, and redirect people to the original.
