Re: Apple Special Event: September 12th

You won't be able to update an iPod Touch 4 to iOS 6 will you? I hope I don't have to buy a new iPod to get all the cool new features... I think the iPod Touch 5 and the new iPad are going to have Siri on them!

My old iPod Nano 3G is still alive... the battery is still alright. I wish I could install iPod Linux or Rockbox or something like that on it... Or maybe just install Ubuntu on my iPod Touch 4G.

You can install android on it with a dual boot, then install Ubuntu on top of that.

That might work, but maybe not because then installing Ubuntu next to Android next to iOS might mess up OpeniBoot or something like that. It would also lag a lot and Android on iOS also has battery problems.

The numbers mean nothing. The announcement is that Apple is shutting down because they can't sell anything anymore with Steve Jobs gone. (JK)

For real, I'll guess that they are announcing the iPhone 5, The Newer iPad (aka iPad 5, skipping #4), an iPod Touch running the 4S hardware, and discontinuing all other non-Mac products.

Apple has just had the highest revenue ever. Does that tell you anything?

Also, you can't make iOS apps without a Mac, so even if Apple were concentrating totally on iProducts, which they are not, they would still sell Macs.

That part was a joke, hence the jk part.  tongue

I said discontinuing non-Mac products, which means iPods that are not the iTouch. I did not say they would stop selling macs.

Planned obsolescence is just adding new features or making something the "cool" thing to get, not intentionally breaking older devices.

Maybe. I heard a few months ago Apple might create a full-fledged TV, though IMO it's probably not going to happen.

Ubuntu and Android use the same kernel or something so that it runs natively without virtualisation. It's actually pretty good and it's not likely to mess up the android installation  smile

You can install Ubuntu on iOS similar to how you install Android on iOS, but it still suffers some problems with battery life and stuff like that. Android isn't supported on iOS 5 yet anyway.  tongue

It isn't supported on iOS 5? Didn't realise that. I'm not a 100% expert in iOS, as I don't own one myself, and most of what I know is from what I read + using my parents' iPhones.  tongue
